Police have released stills from close-circuit television footage of a suspect in the fatal shooting of AmBank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
In a statement on its Facebook page, the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters said the man, nicknamed 'Sei Ngan Chai' (Four-eyed Boy, left) or Jian is the "main suspect" in the incident which has sent shockwaves across the nation.
The four CCTV stills show a man with high forehead. He wears dark-rimmed spectacles and a black-and-white check shirt.
Police have urged all who know the suspect or have information to contact the Kuala Lumpur police investigation department at 03-2146 0685 or the Rakan Cop hotline at 03-2115 9999.
The public can also send a text-message to 32728 or go to the nearest police station.
Star Online reported that police have also arrested a 44-year-old taxi driver who regularly ferries the suspect, in Sri Petaling about 9pm yesterday.
"Initial investigations revealed that the driver dropped off the suspect at Jalan Ah Loy after picking him up near the (Kuan Yin) temple (in Jalan Ceylon) ...," Kuala Lumpur criminal investigations department chief Ku Chin Wah was quoted as saying.
He said the police now believe that only one person was involved in the killing, instead of three as earlier reported.
Bullets recovered from Hussain's body have revealed that the weapon used was a 9mm automatic pistol.
Ku also said police have recorded the statement of the man who Hussain had met at the temple to discuss a land deal.
Spate of shootings
In the incident, Hussain, 75, died on the spot while his wife sustained injuries, after more than five shots were fired at them about 2pm.
Police suspect that the crime was committed by a hired assassin over a deal gone sour, but the banker's wife has said her husband had no enemies.
She herself sustained injuries after more than five shots were fired at the couple as they were walking to their car.
The shooting occurred just days after anti-crime NGO R Sri Sanjeevan was shot and injured by a motorcyclist, while driving in Bahau, Negri Sembilan, last Saturday.
Two others were shot dead in Perak and Penang respectively on Monday, raising safety concerns and questions over the proliferation of gun violence on the streets.
