PETALING JAYA - Sex bloggers Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee, better known by their nickname Alvivi, have had their Facebook page permanently shut down after posting a controversial Selamat Berbuka Puasa greeting.
They drew the wrath of many netizens, both Muslim and non-Muslim, as the greeting featured a photo of them eating bak kut teh (a pork dish).
On their joint Twitter account @AlviviSwingers, they wrote on Friday that their Facebook page was now closed after the website received “strong negative feedback” from users.
They used foul language in their ensuing tweets, blaming the public, media and Facebook staff for their account’s closure.
In less than 24 hours after their controversial Thursday post, the couple received over 500 comments which lambasted them for their lack of sensitivity towards Malaysian Muslims.
Tan had earlier told The Star that they had posted the greeting for “no reason. Just a joke, I guess”.
After the overwhelming negative feedback, they posted an amended photo on Friday, which showed the pork dish covered up with halal food.
The greeting had also changed from “Selamat Berbuka Puasa” to “Ampunkanlah Kami (Forgive us)”, with the sub-caption.
The pair shot to notoriety after posting a video of themselves having sex last October.

you can't force people to respect your beliefs
ReplyDeletewhat did you say? can't force people to respect others belief?
Deleteoh so now hitting such sensitive issue that can cause havoc is considered "can be tolerated"?
No idea should be exempt from mockery and satire. Especially religion.
DeleteGOOD POINT! WHERE IS OUR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM UNDER THE 18/20 POINTS AGREEMENT???
DeleteWhat the pair of young people have in fact stirred up is the issue of freedom of expression.
Their case is an example of abusing this freedom. The 2 young persons are unusual in their confrontational approach in making a point to say the least. They are very much like the 1960s avant-garde generation which challenged the taboos of western society. They in fact went further with their sex expo by mis-use of the internet freedom.
Their example is one more excuse why UMNO will move to suppress this freedom. This comment is made on the proviso that they might also be regarded as an artistic pair in the western sense by their using outrageous methods to shock and highlight the contradictions of society- much like but more extreme than Malayan Nam Wee.
If UMNO has a law against race/religious discrimination, they should charge the pair for abuse of that law. But UMNO cannot apply such a law on one party and not charge its cohorts in UMNO which has been abusing this freedom for over 50 years, prominently led by one called "Mahathir" the well-know pseudo Malay.
So it is not surprising UMNO does not encourage citizens to uphold human rights laws for a secular and pluralist society.
And we must not allow the gut issues be side stepped with yet another seemingly diversion.
We will notice that aside from this political social malfunction all this DEBATE about religious freedom is bent towards one side underlined by high intolerance of any opposite views least of all - satire.
UMNO has created many social religious taboos in the neo-colonial Malaysian society which now require to be broken down by both secular thinking Malays and non-Malays.Examples are the embedded "Malays privileges" which are totally against principles of fundamental basic human rights freedoms and racial equality.
But what we have here is just a typical example of UMNO style of debate: They always blame others and their view must dominate according to the principles of UMNO Melayu supremacist ideas since 1957.
One can understand that migrant Malays want to take back "their country" but they must remember like the other migrant population, they share MALAYA with other migrants like Indians, Chinese and others. Malaya actually belongs to the Orang Asals- the original Malays.
Sabah and Sarawak became UMNO Malayan colonies and have since 963 been subjected to creeping Islamisation of what was effectively 2 Christian majority countries. The issue of race and religion has come to divide and rule Sabah and Sarawak in a more pronounced way since 1963.
In Sabah and Sarawak the governments prior to 1963 also followed the Malayan template whereby the new colonial rulers divided the population according to race and religion as well as politics to maintain their political control of the people
However in relation to Sabah and Sarawak it is not just an issue of forced Islamisation but UMNO must get ready to de-colonise and withdraw its army from these 2 countries and let the people regain their independence.
As a Sabah writer has written; Malayans can only be liberated when they de-colonise Sabah and Sarawak.
SKMM will do the investigate for this case.
