Burning of party flag, PKR sacks one Khalid's supporter, suspends four others

A PKR member and supporter of Selangor Menteri Besar (MB) Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was sacked yesterday for burning the party flag.

PKR disciplinary board chairman Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong said in a statement today that the member, Aidil Haryman Mat Nor, had publicly posted on Facebook a picture of himself burning the flag.

He said the move gave a bad impression to the image and credibility of the party in the eyes of the public, hence the board came to the decision to sack him from the party.

“He also admitted to burning the party flag and challenged to be sacked from the party,” added Tan.

The decision was made yesterday after the PKR disciplinary board presented this and other disciplinary cases at the PKR leadership council meeting that was chaired by party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Four other PKR members were suspended and issued with a show-cause letter.

They were involved in a press conference on Aug 20, held by Pakatan Anak-Anak Selangor Menyokong Mentri Besar (Pasmeb) and other NGOs to support Khalid as Menteri Besar.

The four were Dr Wan Suhaimi Wan Daud of the Pasir Mas division, Nasiruddin Mohamad of the Sepang division, Abdul Rahim Abdul Wahab of the Selayang division and Rosmah Suly of the Batu division.

Malaysian Indian Progressive Association (Mipas) said the act of burning the flag must have been the work of irresponsible outsiders who wanted to give the party a bad name.

Mipas chief S Bharathidasan said those who dared to burn the party flag must have been Umno supporters.

“If PKR members truly love the party and were loyal to it, would they burn the PKR party flag that they loved all this while?

“It’s akin to burning your own house that you love,” he said in statement.

He said even if Khalid’s supporters were disappointed with his leadership, they should not resort to burning the flag of their own party.
