Gunmen in Sabah waters chased by security forces

KOTA KINABALU - A group of gunmen sneaked into Sabah waters on Thursday evening, leading to a chase with Malaysian security forces.

The country security personnel had also engaged in a shootout with the suspects after they were detected at waters off Semporna, around 7pm.

It is believed that the gunmen are still within the state waters and had gone into hiding, possible in one of the many islands.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) commander Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun had instructed his men to be on the look-out for the armed group.

As of press time, operation to track down suspects is still ongoing at waters near Pulau Gaya, a source from Esscom said.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman could not be reached for comment.
