The 7pm to 5am curfew at the waters of six districts in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) will continue in its 15th phase from February 27 to March 14.
The curfew's 14th phase involving a distance of three nautical miles from the coast for the waters off Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Kunak, Lahad Datu, Tawau and Semporna, ends today.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said the curfew was extended to ensure the safety of those using the waters, including Esszone's mainland residents and tourists in Sabah.
"The directive is also to facilitate enforcement and monitoring of all movements of boat intrusion and cross-border crimes of trafficking humans, drugs and controlled firearms," he said in a statement issued today.
According to him, the curfews held since July 19 last year were also supported by those running chalets and fishing activities to ensure the safety of the waters and islands at the border. – Bernama
