PM should go on leave pending investigation as to conform to the principles of democracy

KUALA LUMPUR - Former deputy prime minister Tun Musa Hitam said it was not a show of weakness for prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to go on leave at this moment.

On the contrary he said this would illustrate the fact that the prime minister's leadership, character and personality conform to the principles of democracy.

Musa told Malaysian Insider in an interview that Najib had three options: To remain in office and fight the allegations; to resign as prime minister; and to go on leave pending investigation.

He proposed that Najib choose the third option because this would show that his "leadership, character and personality in line with the principles of parliamentary democracy" while allowing for "an open and transparent investigation."
