KOTA MARUDU - Two men were sentenced to a five-month imprisonment and a fine each by the Magistrate Court here, today, for providing false details to the National Registration Department for the purpose of obtaining an identity card.
A Pakistani identified as Mohamad Imran Said Malik Syah, 21, and a local Rahman Butir, 50, were charged under Rule 25(1)(b) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amended 2007) to be read with Section 6 of the National Registration Act 1959 for providing false information and abetting in obtaining identity card.
Both accused pleaded guilty when the charge was read to them before Magistrate Dzulhelmy Yunus.
Prosecution officer Shamsuddin Erang of the State National Registration Department prosecuted while both accused were unrepresented.
According to the facts of case, both accused had on 2 April 2010 at 8.57am provided false information to the registration officer at the National Registration Department (NRD) in Pitas district.
Both accused had also gone to the NRD in Sandakan district on 29 Sept 2015 to make a replacement of a MyKad under the name of Rahman's late son, Sukri Rahman.
Rahman later received a RM2,000 from Mohamad Imran.
Dzulhelmy said both accused had carried out serious offences and sentenced them to five-month imprisonment effective today.
Rahman was also fined with RM2,000 while Mohamad Imram was fined with RM3,000.
