Anti-Guan Eng protest outside DAP convention

GEORGE TOWN - Anti-Lim Guan Eng protestors carried out a five-minute demonstration this morning outside the venue of the state DAP delegates’ congress. The rally came a day after a similar protest at Komtar. The same group was believed to be involved.

The protestors demanded that chief minister Lim Guan Eng make way for senior executive councillor Chow Kon Yeow, who is also state DAP chairman, and held up placards with slogans urging Lim to return to Malacca, and supporting Chow Kon Yeow for Chief Minister of Penang.

They left after about five minutes.

Elections are being held by the Penang DAP, with 45 people vying for the 15 seats on the leadership committee. All 15 incumbent members, who include state executive councillors and MPs, are seeking re-election.

Political observers believe that Chow, his ally, executive councillor Phee Boon Poh, and their supporters will dominate the committee.

State DAP chairman should be Penang Chief Minister: Delegate

GEORGE TOWN: A DAP delegate today said the post of Penang Chief Minister should be held by the state DAP chairman. Shamsher Singh Thind from the Chai Leng Park branch said this was because the state DAP chairman was given the mandate by the party to lead the state.

"The state DAP chairman should be made the chief minister because he has been given utmost trust by the grassroots. "No one else should be allowed to helm the state," he said in his five minute-long fiery debate.

In the last general election, Lim Guan Eng maintained his chief ministership although Chow Kon Yeow was the state DAP chairman then. In recent days, there have been growing voices for Chow to replace Lim.
