Police probe 5 TMI editors over report on MACC
According to The Edge Media Group lawyer Syahredzan Johan, the five individuals are TMI CEO and Editor Jahabar Sadiq, Managing Editor Lionel Morais, Assistant News Editor V. Anbalagan and Assistant Chief Sub-Editors Abdar Rahman Koya and Srihanasham Noordin.
“The investigation started around 3.30pm and ended around 7.30pm. They gave their statements both to the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
“They were asked about the article on MACC published by TMI,” said Syahredzan when contacted by Astro AWANI.
He added that they were questioned under three laws: Section 124(i) of the Penal Code, Section 8(a) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“They gave their full cooperation to both the police and MCMC today,” he said.
Syahredzan, who declined comment when prodded about access to the news portal, however replied, "you have to ask TMI."
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Thursday announced that the TMI portal had been blocked because its contents flouted Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The Operational Assessment Panel has also issued an official statement which denied the TMI's report yesterday that it "had enough evidence to charge Najib in connection with the SRC."
