Gabungan Sabah: Not impossible to defeat BN government

KOTA KINABALU - Sabah based oppositions coalition - Gabungan Sabah – is confident of toppling the ruling Barisan Nasional in the coming State election.

Gabungan Sabah Chairman Datuk Mohd Noor Mansur said it is not impossible to inflict defeat against the present government as it has been proven in the past.

"When Sabah was ruled by Berjaya, everybody said that it was impossible to defeat them, but in the middle of 1980s, a newly formed opposition called Parti Bersatu Sabah inflict heavy defeat against them.

"This shows that there is simply no impossible in Sabah if the opposition parties and the people are unite," he said at the Chap Goh Mei luncheon of the Gabungan Sabah at a leading restaurant, here.

Gabungan Sabah comprises of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS), STAR and Parti Harapan Sabah.

Mohd Noor who is also a former Sabah Finance Minister during the era of Berjaya Government also said that financial strength would not guarantee victory.

He said Berjaya Government was showered with tones of cash while PBS was struggling to raise cash and the outcome clearly showed that a newly formed party with less financial strength came out winner.

He said as Chairman he will call a meeting soon to fine tune the infrastructures and stratergies of the opposition coalition.

Meanwhile, SAPP President Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee said the Chap Goh Mei is the 15th day of the new Lunar year, which is the first full moon of the year and generally signifies a fresh beginning.

"For Gabungan Sabah and our partners, including activists, this is also a new era for the grand unity of Sabahans of diverse backgrounds to reclaim our rights. our position and our control our beloved Sabah, a land of harmonious people of many cultures.

Yong who is also a former Sabah Chief Minister said that Sabah's political and social progress can no longer be left entirely to political parties.

"Like what is happening around the world, non-government organisations, activists and special interest groups who are expert in their own field, and who have passion in their social work are also important in building Sabah," he said.

PCS President Datuk Seri Wilfred Bumburing said his party as well as Gabungan Sabah are ready for the coming State election.

Bumburing said there is a need for the opposition coalition to fine tune their infrastructures so that they could win the election with bigger majority.
STAR President Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan in his speech has said that the move to form the coalition is fulfilling the aspiration of the people of Sabah who yearns for unity.

He said there is no doubt that a unite Sabah would definitely could topple the Barisan Nasional.

Also present at the luncheon, among others, were Parti Harapan Sabah Deputy President Datuk Maijol Mahap and his Secretary General and party state wanita chief as well as senior members.

Senior leaders of STAR, PCS and SAPP including its Information Chief Chong Pit Fah also attended the luncheon.
