Yong approved 999-year titles to Taman Seputeh

Kota Kinabalu, 4 September, 2020: Former Member of Parliament Datuk Philip Yong Chiew Lip, today, came out to refute accusations making their rounds in social media postings recently by certain irresponsible parties accusing Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee of reverting land title leases from 999 years to 99 years, which was a blatant lie.

Philip Yong, in setting the record straight about the lies, showed a copy of a land title proving that the title was issued in 1998 stated the said title has been reverted to 999 years.

Datuk Philip mentioned that he was also present during a thanksgiving ceremony organised by the residents of Taman Seputeh on March 7, 1998 when Datuk Yong Teck Lee was invited there the time he was Chief Minister.

However, Philip said Yong could have done more if he had more time as Chief Minister. Yong was in office briefly for two years and during his tenure had allocated lands to many independent Chinese primary schools as well as land to various ethnic groups.

“With the looming general election, it is no surprise political opponents will be trying to circulate slanderous, misleading and twisted lies to their own benefit,” Philip said.

“Facts are facts, we cannot change that,” he said.

Datuk Philip Yong Chiew Lip is Chairman of Sabah Maritime Silk Association cum one of the directors of Malaysia-China Business Council Board (MCBC). He was a former Member of Parliament for Gaya and ex-Deputy President of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP).
