Life without IC for the last 46 years

SIPITANG: A Sipitang housewife, Rose Kalsum Zainal (left) from Kg Mesapol Lama finds life has been miserable for the last 46 years having to live without a Malaysia Identity Card. She is no less than a foreigner, even foreigners many of them are luckier than her got Mykads as soon as they arrived in this country in particular Sabah, she said.

Rose Kalsum had applied twice to get Malaysian IC, first was in 1978 in Kota Kinabalu (proof of photocopied documents supplied) but since the IC wasn’t forthcoming, she then re-applied by registering at the National Registration Department in Sipitang District office in 1990.

Are we stupid Sabahan?

From: Sabastion Madin

State govt leaders sidelining Sabah's special rights

The Chairman of the UNITED BORNEO FRONT (UBF) told the descendants of Tun Datu Mustapha at a Borneo Tea Party gathering at Kepayan Ridge on Saturday, Sept. 24th that the Sabah Government leaders are giving too much priority to their own Party's interests and vested interests at the expense of sidelining and sometimes foregoing Sabah’s special rights and the rights of Sabahans.

Although they were pushed and rushed into the formation of Malaysia, the Founding Fathers of Sabah (then North Borneo) before and at the time of the formation of Malaysia in 1963 had the heart and interests of Sabah and Sabahans.  The protection of the rights and interests of Sabah and Sabahans can be seen via the 20-Points Memorandum, the Reports of the Cobbold Commission and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC), the Malaysia Agreement, 1963 itself and assurances and promises by the leaders of the then Malaya.

The Sabahan in Malaysia

My mother was born in Bingkor, a three-hour dirt drive away from Kota Kinabalu. It was my grandfather's penchant for all things Indonesian that caused him to name his daughter "Fazar", meaning "dawn". And indeed, it was the dawn of a new era. Grandfather, Datuk Hj Arif Salleh, was then in politics (he was a representative of Keningau), at a time when Sabah was surging with talks of joining Malaya, Sarawak and Singapore to form a new nation. A little more than a month after my mother's birth, on 16 September 1963, Malaysia came to be.
