Agency's poor performance forces state government to recall retired general manager to troubleshoot
According to a reliable source the cabinet directive followed claims of ‘unsatisfactory’ performance by the LIGS.
The source said the revamp exercise will, among others, involve the re-appointment and return of retired LIGS general manager Harris Mathew to his former post.
Under the exercise, the LIGS chairman Zakaria Edris and his board of directors will switch agencies with KPD chairman Ahmad Bujang and his team.
It was learned that Chief Minister Musa Aman is uhappy with the performance of LIGS, which has been the subject of complaints for, among others, late payment to smallholders.
This, despite LIGS having registered an improvement in profits following the soaring price of rubber.
Last year, Sabah Bumiputera Farmers and Stockbreeders Association (Petanah) had claimed that LIGS had
not paid rubbers tappers their dues for up to four months.
LIGS, which is the main buyer of rubber produced by tappers in Sabah including those working on a large scale rubber planting scheme in Tenom and Sipitang, however denied this.
KPD, meanwhile, was previously in the list of ‘ailing government agencies’ but it has since said to have recovered.
No matter how the BN government overhaul these agencies, if it is not based on meritocaracy abuse of power and mismanagement will keep on circling like a clown in a circus riding on a merry-go-around. A GLARING EXAMPLE THE 3,500 ACRES OF LAND BELONGING TO LIGS IN TONGOD WAS TRANSFERED TO A COMPANY BELONGING TO AN UNMO PROXIES WITHOUT ANY CONSIDERATION. IS THIS NOT DAYLIGHT ROBBERY BUT MACC PREFER TO CLOSE ONE EYE FOR REASON KNOWN TO THEMSELVES.
