TAWAU: Tawau MP Datuk Chua Soon Bui wants Upko to reveal what are the terms of reference for the Royal Commission of Inquiry on illegal immigrants since the party said the RCI was already in the bag.
She said there was no reason for the delay in making the announcement on the RCI.
"The people deserve to know whether the Prime Minister's consideration is for the interest of the people and sovereignty of the country.
"It has been a well-known fact that illegal immigrants are the major contributors to the population boom in Sabah, the alleged citizenship-for-votes scam in Sabah, the social, health, security and safety impacts in the State have deteriorated due to illegal immigrants," she pointed out.
Chua said during the Prime Minister's visit to Sabah the matter is said to be under his consideration despite Upko President, Tan Sri Bernard Dompok, PBS deputy president, Datuk Maximus Ongkili having indicated positively the Prime Minister would make the announcement during his visit.
"Sabah Barisan Nasional components, especially PBS and Upko must have felt the slap since the Prime Minister would announce the matter at a more opportune time.
"And Upko's Secretary-General, Datuk Wilfred Tangau said RCI was in the bag and that the terms of reference are to be ironed out.”
She hoped the government would be objective in the RCI set up to tackle the 899,000 illegal immigrants in the 3.2 million Sabah population.
"Since the Prime Minister is determined to finish some of his reforms before the 13th General Election, he should reveal the reason why the RCI has not been set up unless the State's sovereignty and its peoplels interest are of secondary priority, " she added.
Kerajaan perlulah mengumumkan terma rujukan untuk RCI secepat mungkin supaya ia boleh dilaksanakan sebelum PRU-13.
