Umno BN treachery and treason

by Joseph Lakai

Oil producing offshore area, Block M and Block L belonging to Sabah near Brunei in the South China Sea is no longer a part of Sabah. It now belongs to Brunei. This Block M and Block L is close to 6000 square kilometers in size, which is like 10 times the size of Singapore. Both the blocks can produce 1 billion barrels of oil or US$100 billion in revenue and it belongs to Sabah.

Chief Minister from Sabah, Musa Aman together with former Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi negotiated with the Sultan of Brunei to get back Limbang for Sarawak, in exchange they agreed to surrender this Block M and Block L belonging to Sabah. Can you believe this? Yes, Musa Aman with Badawi, on March 17th, 2009 in Brunei, had signed away US100 billion dollars of oil to the Sultan of Brunei.

Moreover, this was not brought up at all by Musa Aman to the Sabah State Legislative Assembly. More importantly by giving up the Blocks L and M, both Musa Aman and Pak Lah were altering the boundaries to Sabah, and the Constitution under Clause 2 (b) provides that this will require the consent of the state and as well as the Conference of Rulers.

To give away or demarcate boundaries of Borneo States, Badawi must first consult Parliament, and then under the Federation Agreement with Sabah, Badawi must ask Musa Aman to convene an emergency sitting of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly and then take a vote in the State Assembly. Musa Aman did not just do that. Musa Aman concealed this whole thing, Brunei, Block M and Block L from Sabahans. This Musa Aman, did not bring this matter to the State Assembly at all and why was he hiding this from Sabahans? Musa Aman owes Sabahans and explanation.

Besides, only if Sabah had cleared this matter in the assembly, then only, can this be brought to the Agong for a royal consent to the demarcation of the new boundaries. The Conference of Rulers MUST also agree and that too has to come BEFORE the signing of the Agreement with Brunei. However, they did not.

Then why were Pak Lah and Musa Aman in a hurry to sign the Agreement with the Sultan? Why the rush? Pak Lah says he has the approval from his Cabinet and so everything is in order. However, is this true? Was the process done constitutionally, as per the Federation Agreement?

To me this is like TREASON! Musa Aman should be charged for Treason for concealing, hiding or aiding the crime of TREASON. Musa Aman concealed this action from the Sabah State Assembly, and for any public servant To conceal, hide, or aid the crime of TREASON is to be guilty of the same offence.

The facts are:
1. Malaysia, Sabah no longer has any sovereignty over the 2 areas i.e Block L and Block M.

2. Malaysian oil companies can only participate in jointly developing the areas for 40 years (with Brunei’s permission).

3. Limbang remains a disputed area with Brunei.

I stand by my opinion that Musa Aman and Abdullah Badawi should be tried for Treachery and TREASON for losing territory belonging to Sabah, Malaysia.
Then if the KL boys were to say that the Blocks L & M are not within the Sabah State waters and therefore under the purview of the Federal Government, then I will say, why this not brought to Parliament, and not brought to The Agong, and then to the Conference of Rulers, as we are after all altering the boundaries of the federation? Is it because it comes under the Federal Territory of LABUAN?

The UMNO/ BN once again had violated the Malaysia Agreement 1963 after we lost Labuan and, Pairin, Dompok, Kurup and Chong Kah Kiat including the other Sabahan ministers in BN component did not dare to voice up and do whatsoever to stop these violations. It is absolutely disgraceful. What else is missing after this? Are we simply going to forgive and forget for this wrongdoing by UMNO and the BN component? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

    1. BLOCKS L & M IN EXCHANGE FOR LIMBANG!

      Hi Jo

The reason for giving away those valuable "blocks" was that Brunei agreed not to claim Limbang. Very obvious reason.

But what can we do. These bastards gave away our Sabah collective wealth but they are in power and cannot be touched.

Pah lah is dosing it away happily somewhere in Malaya oblivious to what is happening nowadays. Does he care?

There is just one solution to this horrible situation we are in.

It is not fighting for more autonomy but for independence so we can take back our country.

If we let the Malayan colonialists continue using Sabah and also Sarawak as development banks with limited funds and resources to finance Malaya development and enrich UMNO cronies,. not much will be left in another 25 years not say 50 years!

WE LOST NOT JUST THE OILFIELDS, LABUAN BUT OUR RIGHT TO ENJOY REAL INDEPENDENCE!

  30. Joseph Lakai, you certainly do not have good geographical understanding of boundary issues, measurement such as EEZ and the rules of maritime. The seashore belongs to Brunei definitely within its 200 nautical miles EEZ as stated under the United Nations treaty. Even if you take into consideration an Island measurement, in this case Labuan, twice its size extended to the sea would not cover both blocks L and M as it is known in Malaysia or J and K as it is in Brunei. Whilst from Sabah, the measurement is useless, from the longest tip of Sipitang to the sea will be totally inapplicable. It's a sideway Joseph not a straight line.

And importantly you failed to expose any evident of the agreement. There are no black and white materials to support your argument. This is not Politics Joseph but logic.

  31. Yes Bro you are right, this is a territorial dispute and resource conflict over an area not within a Malaysian jurisdiction. To initiate a claim would be a lengthy procedure both historically and geographically. Block L and M are just less than 30 miles nautical from Muara Beach in Brunei. A strong swimmer could make it in less than an hour to reach. Not to mention digging into traditional dispute over territorial claim historically. In any means, there are still contracts existed in hard binding paper copies that show Labuan, Limbang, Miri and even Sibu as being rented to the colonizers, the Broke Families in Sarawak and the North Borneo Company for Sabah.

It is not a question of an eye for an eye exchange. Malaysia benefits from the agreement totally with 40 years of oil and gas exploration in an area that clearly belongs to Brunei. Imagine that you are a thief entering someone's house but instead of returning that person's belongings you are demanding to have a joint share of the properties.

Petronas has been drilling Brunei's oil and gas illegally not only in Block L and M which are awarded to Murphy Oil in a PSC basis by Petronas which nearly sparks regional conflict - a war in this case or more clearly an attempt by Petronas to drill an oil reserve in the boundary of Sarawak and Brunei specifically situated in an area between Miri (Sarawak) and Belait (Brunei) encroaching into the land that belongs to Brunei.

This is not a land exchange programme. Brunei never wants Limbang back as it is not beneficial to acquire an area without any lucrative resources and Block L and M are not within Sabah's EEZ. Brunei has lost not one area but lots of them in the past therefore it should not loss an inch more to this conflict.

Malaysia is lucky that Brunei could compromise on this situation rather than pursuing the matter to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Peaceful resolution proves fruitful Mr Joseph. Remember A WAR is not always an answer to a CONFLICT Mr Joseph. Put aside a politic, Think cognitively Mr Joseph, we are grown up.
