The Umno general assembly will take place from Nov 27 to Dec 1, but can be postponed if the general election is called.
“If the election is called, we can just postpone the AGM. We might have it or we might not have it,” Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said today.
Najib, who is also Umno president, must call for general polls by April.
Holding his cards close to his chest, he said it is up to the people to speculate when the polls will be held, given the announcement today.
"I like them to speculate," he quipped.
The party had previously postponed its internal elections until after the general election.
The party president's address and opening ceremony will be on Nov 27.
The women's, Youth and Puteri wings will hold their assemblies on Nov 28.
The women's, Youth and Puteri wings will hold their assemblies on Nov 28.
The main assembly will be held from Nov 29 to Dec 1. 'I did not write letter'
"The appointment of Associate Professor Mirzan Hitam will bring victory and glory to pro-Aspirasi to raise the position of the race and country in accordance to the Umno constitution," he read out from the letter.
The letter, showed to the press, bore the Umno logo as its letterhead.
Pro-Aspirasi is a largely pro-establishment coalition in campus politics, who are vying for success in ongoing campus polls.
"I have never issued any letter on any university appointment and this can be verified by the universities and Higher Education Ministry.
"This means that certain people are so desperate that they are willing to do anything including spread falsehoods to incite student hatred and anger towards the government," he said.
Students last weekend marched in downtown Kuala Lumpur to demand clean and fair campus polls.
Holding a separate state election from the 13th general election will not only be costly, but will also disrupt classes and put teachers in disarray.
ReplyDeletePR said it is not necessary the opposition states as selangor, penang, kedah and kelantan will join the 13th general election..maybe the opposition have a strategy or a coward...it's up to the people to judge..

ReplyDeleteNew faces are expected to dominate the candidate lists from both Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) as both court the nearly three million new voters in the coming elections , sources say.
ReplyDeleteBN is drawing professionals from a number of agencies, including Putrajaya’s efficiency unit PEMANDU, in its quest to regain the two-thirds parliamentary majority and states lost to PR in Election 2008.
ReplyDeleteDatuk Seri Najib Razak is going through the list a few times. Each seat has at least four possible candidates and he wants the best, the winnable there.
ReplyDeleteNajib, who chairs the 13-member ruling coalition, has told the component parties that seat allocation will now be based on potentially-winning candidates rather than the previous formula of sharing seats as the MCA, MIC and Gerakan did badly in Election 2008.
ReplyDeleteAmong the changes are the BN chairman personally selecting and recommending candidates for those parties apart from his Umno, particularly younger people who can attract the youth vote.
ReplyDeleteThe prime minister has launched several programmes, including tweetups and last week’s 1 Malaysia for Youth (1M4U) in the capital city, to bring the younger generation to his side. Najib is thorough.
ReplyDeleteHe is already eyeing one candidate from PEMANDU to get more support, another source said, referring to the efficiency agency, Performance Management and Delivery Unit, headed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala. Jala is a senator but is not a member of any BN component party.
ReplyDeleteBut the prime minister, who is seeking his first personal mandate, had said that BN had yet to finalise its candidates for the upcoming general election.
ReplyDeleteThe list will be finalised when the time comes. Everything else is just speculation,” Najib had said when asked about report saying he had rejected half of the names submitted for the list.
ReplyDeleteUmno information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan said the party has activated its 6,667 district polling centres across the country to strengthen its election machinery as elections are near.
