Pakatan should honour "Kuching Declaration"

Pakatan Rakyat's seat sharing formula: Pakatan 50-52 seats, local party SAPP 8-10 seats, Star to be excluded.

KOTA KINABALU - The Pakatan Rakyat leadership should not delay the announcement of its (PR) formula for seat sharing among opposition parties in Sabah for the upcoming 13th general elections.

SAPP Youth chairman Edward Dagul urges PKR vice chairman YB Tian Chua who is also the MP for Batu to confirm whether that the formula proposed by Pakatan Rakyat(PR) that the "60 State seats to be divided by 6 parties" is official and final.

Edward pointed out that YB Tian Chua met SAPP president and few other SAPP leaders to discuss sharing of Sabah state seats last month and proposed the "60 divided by 6" formula, since then SAPP has been waiting for Pakatan Rakyat to confirm if this is their official seat sharing formula and whether this formula is also used in Sarawak and Malaya.

Pakatan's PKR vice chairman YB Tian Chua had proposed that the 60 Sabah state seats to be shared among Pakatan's 3 parties, and the 2 NGOs (Datuk Lajim Ukin's PPPS , Datuk Wilfred Bumburing's APS) and SAPP meaning each entity get to contest at the average of 10 seats. PR's proposal does not include STAR.

Being NGOs, PPPS and APS are supposed to use PKR's symbol therefore, it means that Pakatan overall would get to contest 50 seats with PKR contesting 30 seats, SAPP ended up contesting only 8 to 10 seats.

The three main parties of Pakatan Rakyat had on Sep 16, 2012 launched "Kuching Declaration" to declare that Pakatan will restore Sarawak and Sabah's status equal to that Peninsular Malaysia and to safeguard the two States' political interests. It also emphasized on equal representation and autonomy. The declaration was jointly signed by PKR's leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP's YB Lim Kit Siang and PAS president YB Hadi Awang.

Among others, the declaration's Article 1 promises " We will restore the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement and the position of Sarawak and Sabah as equal partners within Malaysia by restoring autonomy to Sarawak and Sabah within the framework of the Federal Constitution".

Under Article 2 on "Fair representation", the declaration promises to "increase national integration between Sarawak, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia through power-sharing arrangement that fully upholds the spirit of Malaysia Agreement".

Edward said YB Tian Chua who represented Pakatan Rakyat to discuss with SAPP and other PR leaders should make it known to the public if this Pakatan proposed formula is final. The people of Sabah deserves to be informed early on PR's approach against BN in the coming PRU13 particularly the seat-sharing formula. Let the people decide if the formula is in line with the "Kuching Declaration" and in the best interests of Sabah.

Edward added, "being a responsible political party, there is a public duty to inform the people what is the final PR formula, so that the people can have a clear picture to decide and no more being confused by political acts,"

Edward also said that before SAPP decide whether to agree with the PR's formula, it has to be first confirmed if this PR "60 divided by 6" formula is final. This is to avoid the recurrence of ever-changing proposals by PR over the previous discussions.

At the same time, Edward chided Datuk Wilfred Bumburing being too in a hurry to announce on behalf of PR that the door for discussion is closed is premature.

  1. There are two types of sabahans, one is malaya puppet like UMNO and PR and let Sabah forever remote control from KL.

    1. TIAN CHUA IS DOING A GOOD JOB IN MALAYA & HE SHOULD STAY WHERE HE BELONGS

We in Sabah and Sarawak can only hope that Pakatan will get rid of UMNO BN in Malaya and wish them luck

But we in our 2 countries must unite to do the job ourselves without Pakatan interferring our countries like UMNO.

As in the 1960s it was UMNO who played the big brother and most arrogantly told us that we needed their protection from foreign invasion. Just like a gangster.

And we paid the price dearly for this protection to our deepest regrets for 50 long years of being part of a hell hole called "Malaysia".

We must to resist them and re-assert our independence rights which we lost when Sabah and Sarawak were pushed into Malaysia and became colonies.

UMNO and Pakatan have the same objective- that is to gain total control of Sabah and Sarawak.

We will always remain vassal states of Malaya in Malaysia and will play the role of colonial subjects for 50 more years unless we take our countries out of Malaya.

If you are not convinced look at Brunei and Singapore.

They are both independent countries and freely manage their own affairs outside Malaysia. They were to be part of the Malaysia according to British Malayan neo-colonial designs. But each became independent- Brunei by choice and Singapore was given a second leash of life by leaving Malaysia.

They do not have to be in Malaysia to survive as independent nations. They have not been invaded despite the British Malayan scare mongering tactics to justify formation of Malaysia.

There are some local people who have developed a helpless subservient mind and see that our 2 countries need foreign protection and finance to survive. They are so incapable of seeing and working it out that Malaya has never protected us from invasion or developed our economies.

On the contrary, it was Malaya invaded our countries with Britain in 1962 when they acted to jointly suppress the anti-Malaysia Brunei Uprising and later the guerrilla independence war in Sarawak. Malaya replaced the British colonialist and began plundering our oil wealth and other resources to develop Malaya.

Vote your own local party for eventual freedom or vote for a Malayan puppet party.

Yes you are free to choose to remain Malayan slaves and condemn all your descendants to endure the hell hole of Malaysia.

      The choice is clear.

  2. The 13th general election is heading for a multi-cornered fight in nearly all seats with the Opposition unable to hammer out a deal in Sabah

Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) seat talks with the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) have come to a temporary halt, PR ally Datuk Seri Wilfred Mojilip Bumburing has said, in yet another indicator that it may be a fractured opposition front that will face Barisan Nasional (BN) in Election 2013.

On the outset, leaders from both sides have put on nonchalant fronts, each claiming that their “doors are always open” but the drama behind closed doors appears to be showing otherwise. Bumburing said SAPP and PR are finding it tough to accommodate each other on the seat allocation.

According SAPP information chief Chong Pitt Fah, his party chief Datuk Yong Teck Lee had told a Sunday press conference in Sabah that seat talks with PR have yet to come to a deadlock. But when queried on the progress of the negotiation recently, ex-BN strongman Bumburing claimed the opposite.

“In as far as SAPP [is] concerned, Pakatan [is having] difficulty in accommodating the number of seats that they demand and it seems that seat nego (negotiation) with them [has] come to a halt as of now,” Bumburing told The Malaysian Insider in an email interview over the weekend.

The Malaysian Insider also understands that PR is unwilling to cede seats to the Sabah-based SAPP despite its claim to have greater appeal with locals in the east Malaysian state, insisting that theirs is a more Chinese-dominated party.

“The strength of SAPP used to be limited in the town areas. Now the Chinese voters are putting their support to DAP to fight for their rights,” Bumburing said. “SAPP is mainly a Chinese-based party… so who would represent the KDMs (Kadazandusun and Murut)? Of course they claim they are a multiracial party…. but then again, their base is Chinese,” he said.

Azmin said that SAPP’s first demand to contest in a whopping 40 of the state’s 60 seats was too unreasonable as it would leave the remaining opposition parties just 20 seats to share among themselves. “Initially, they wanted 40 seats, and that is not acceptable to PKR, because we have PAS, DAP, APS, PPPS… we must all work together.

“Then they said they were willing to reduce their numbers but the final figure, the most they could concede was just about five seats… again, that is still very big,” he said. He acknowledged SAPP’s argument that the contest for Sabah should be among locals but said the “Sabah for Sabahans” war cry was “no longer applicable after over 50 years of independence”.

But observers believe that SAPP is an important component in PR’s struggle for Sabah as without the party on their side, the opposition’s contest could result in three- or even four-cornered fights, which would split the opposition vote and give BN its much needed edge.

But he added that both parties would likely be on yet another collision course when trying to divide seats among themselves as either side believes they should take the lion’s share. “If both parties are unwilling to concede majority state seats to Pakatan, then I cannot see how they could concede to each other.

pejam celik pejam celik, esok dah PRU.. Pembangkang Sabah masih bercakaran mengenai pembahagian kerusi.
