Cops nab self-styled ‘Datuk Seri’

(Updated) KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested the self-claimed Datuk Seri' Clarence Luing Karl @ Muhammad Khalil John L Karl in connection with their investigations into the Sulu intrusion.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said the 57-year-old unemployed was arrested with three others at about 10.30pm in a house in Tanjung Aru Wednesday.

“All four men have been detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012,” he said when contacted by phone Thursday.

Police did not disclose the reasons for his arrest but it is understood that it was part of their investigations into the financing of the Feb 9 Kampung Tanduo intrusion by about 200 gunmen led by Raja Muda Azzimudie Kiram.

Earlier, this week police detained another Penang based "Datuk Seri" for similar investigations into the intrusion.

Clarence, who is from Kampung Bawang in Tamparuli about 40ks from here, is not a known to local residents.

A Kampung Bawang resident, who declined to be named, said that he knew of him living in the area about four decades ago but they had not seen him for a long time.

"We don't really know where or what he is doing," he added.

Hamza said all the suspects would be detained for 29 days for investigation purposes under the preventive law.

  1. This sounds like extra-judicial killing. Why shot at an unarmed man? Why was he not arrested and brought to court?
