PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission will hold a special meeting on Wednesday to decide on the dates for nomination and polling for the 13th general elections.
In a statement by the Commision's Secretary Datuk Kamaruddin Mohamed, the EC said on Friday that it had already received official notification on the dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat as well as all State Legislative Assemblies with the exception of Sarawak.
The term of the East Malaysian state legislature will only expire in 2016 as it had held its last state elections in 2011.
Kamaruddin said that, according to Article 55 of the Constitution, the EC must hold elections within 60 days of the dissolution of Parliament.
"In relation to the dissolution, and based on the requirement of the Constitution, the EC has determined that a Special Meeting will be held on April 10 at the Commission's headquarters in Putrajaya to decide on the dates for the 13th general election."
Aside from the dates for nomination and polling, the upcoming special meeting will also announce the finalised electoral roll which will be used for the polls.
