Sabah RCI hearing to resume on Monday
KOTA KINABALU: The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Sabah’s immigrant problem will resume its hearing on Monday.
RCI secretary Datuk Saripuddin Kasim said the inquiry will sit for eight days until May 29.
“The proceedings will take place from 9am at the Kota Kinabalu high court complex,” he said in a statement.
On June 1 last year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced the setting up of the RCI, stressing that the Government was committed to resolving the issue which could affect the well-being of the people in the state.
On Sept 21, Najib handed over the appointment letters to the RCI chairman, former Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Steve Shim Lip Kiong (photo) and other commission members.
On March this year, Saripuddin said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had consented to give a six month extension to the commission to come up with its findings.

DeleteKerjasama banyak pihak diperlukan.
DeleteJanji-janji Perdana Menteri DS Najib pasti ditunaikannya. Beliau sentiasa mengambil berat suara-suara rakyat Sabah.
DeleteI don't understand why is everyone is focusing too much on this "Chinese Tsunami". What we should focus on is bridging the racial gap that exist underneath the surface. I believe that the Prime Minister's effort in initializing the NATIONAL RECONCILIATION is a good point of rally. In order to sustain national unity and foster tolerance among Malaysia's multi-racial society one must reconcile the difference that has existed yet remain unspoken. I hope this effort will bear fruit in the future.
DeleteThe Credibility of Tan Sri Steve Shim Lip Kiong cannot be doubted as he was formerly Sabah and Sarawak chief justice. The proceedings will be done according to the just law practice.
ReplyDeletesiapa lagi, anwar aljuburi lah...dengar2 dia lah ketua projek IC..
ReplyDeleteSabah dibanjiri begitu ramai PATI.
Delete“The proceedings will take place from 9am at the Kota Kinabalu high court complex,” he said in a statement.
RCI secretary Datuk Saripuddin Kasim said the inquiry will sit for eight days until May 29.
DeleteResponding to RCI panel member, Kuala Lumpur former police chief of Kuala Lumpur Datuk Henry Chin Poy Wu, he said the security threat not only came from foreigners but also local residents.
Deletekandungan buku jinga PR pula akan memberikan status penduduk tetap kepada semua pendatang asing seluruh negara jika anwar jadi PM..sialan..
DeleteRCI masih dalam perkembangan.
ReplyDeleteSiapakah punca utama kemasukan PATI?
ReplyDeleteSemoga kerajaan ikhlas suntuk selesaikan isu PATI.
ReplyDeletePATI membajiri keseluruhan negara. Mereka juga aktif dalam PRU13.
ReplyDeleteTidakkah Jabatan Pendaftaran dan Imigresen sudah disiasat?
ReplyDeleteThe RCI will overcome the major illegal immigrant problems by fair investigation. It is one of the federal and Najib's government effort to remefy the problem.
ReplyDeleteI hope by the end of the day, RCI is able to find a solution to this problem.
ReplyDeleteThe PATI has caused more bad than good in our state. They are bad for our state.
ReplyDeleteLets Wait and See.......if anything can come out.....hope not wastage of Time,Monies only.
ReplyDelete"We (police) have established why they landed in Lahad Datu. The RCI was not a reason for the intrusion," he said when replying to RCI panel member, Universiti Malaysia Sabah former vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Seri Dr Kamaruzaman Ampon.
ReplyDeleteHamza said the intrusion was an example of how the flood of illegal immigrants in Sabah could threaten the security of the state, because those involved had the support of their countrymen who had families or friends living in Sabah.
ReplyDelete"The intruders could enter the country because they had the support of local residents but those involved were not many," he said, responding to another panel member, former Sabah deputy chief minister and ex-Sabah Attorney General Tan Sri Herman J. Luping.
ReplyDeleteHamza, who was appointed as Sabah CP in 2010, also denied that the intruders were able to enter the state because they possessed identity cards.
ReplyDelete"I was involved in the Lahad Datu intrusion offensive since the early stage. I am 100 per cent confident that the intruders were Suluk who were illegals; they did not have any identity cards," he said, adding that the culprits were detained under the Security Offences Act (Special Measures Act) 2012 and had also been charged in court.
ReplyDeleteHowever, he said the establishment of the ESSCOM to safeguard the security and wellbeing of the people in Sabah would potentially prevent illegal entry by foreigners.
ReplyDeleteHamza also disagreed with Manoj's suggestion that the percentage of crimes committed by foreigners and the local people were at 50-50.
ReplyDelete"For example from January until December 2000, of the 1,258 arrests, only 151 involved Filipinos, 153 involved Indonesians and the remaining 934, local people," he said.
ReplyDeleteAsked by RCI chairman, former Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Steve Shim Lip Kiong on whether the police had sufficient logistics and manpower to combat crimes committed by illegal immigrants, Hamzah said they were presently adequate.
ReplyDeleteKOTA KINABALU: The exercise to recall Malaysian identity cards (IC) can ensure the integrity of the identification document, United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO president Tan Sri Bernard Dompok told the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants
ReplyDeleteBased on a study conducted by UPKO, he said a competent authority could be appointed to verify the authenticity of the ICs.
“This body (competent authority) can be a special task force comprising officers or professionals from the private sector or even from the civil society movement.
ReplyDelete“Transparency must be assured. We can replace the ICs periodically and therefore, there should be no misgivings on the part of anyone to surrender his or her IC for the purpose of verification and after which, (they will be) reissued with a new one beyond reproach,” he told the five-member panel led by former chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Steve Shim Lip Kiong.
Dompok said if all ICs in Sabah were recalled and replaced upon verification, the exercise would answer criticisms faced by the Election Commission on the contamination of the voters list.
ReplyDelete“Those who have obtained citizenship on the sly and become voters can be struck off the (voters) list immediately,” he said.
He said this was discovered during operations by the department, but denied any of the department personnel were involved in the issuance of the fake documents.
ReplyDeleteIn his capacity as ESSCOM director-general, which he assumed on April 1 this year, Mohammad said the agency’s role was to strengthen border control due to the fact that Sabah was close to two countries, Indonesia and the Philippines.
He also said that there were over 400 named and unnamed islands on the east coast that could be used for immigrants to enter the state and which could also be made hide-outs from the authorities.
ReplyDeleteAlso on the panel are former Universiti Malaysia Sabah vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Kamaruzzaman Ampon, former Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Henry Chin Poy Wu, former Sabah state secretary Datuk KY Mustapha and former deputy chief minister Tan Sri Herman J Luping, who is also former state attorney-general.
The inquiry takes a break and will resume on July 1-5.
