ESSCOM denies shooting occurred at the border

A total of 129 people are believed to Illegal Immigrants (PTI) held in Ops Gasak that operarws for seven hours starting at 3 am. 

LAHAD DATU - Head of Security Area Director East Coast (ESSCOM) Mohammad bin Mentek denied that shooting occurred involving cross-border criminals in Kunak earlier today.

Instead, he said the situation in the town Kunak is safe and there were no tensions as widely spread through the social media.

However, Mohammad confirmed that ESSCOM launched Ops Gasak covering three villages in Kg. Bakau, Kg. Nelayan and Kg. Basilan.

He said the 22nd Ops Gasak was headed by ESSCOM Operations Director, DCP Abdul Rashid Harun involving multiple agencies, security forces and defenses, including the Department of Immigration and National Registration Department Sabah.

A total of 129 people were arrested for not possessing a valid identity documents.

"This operation launched following the abduction cases in Kampung Air Sapang, Kunak recently and I hope the community to remain calm and not spread false news, especially in the social media," he said in a statement here today.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rashid said about 129 people are believed to be illegal immigrants (PATI) were arrested in the said operation conducted for seven hours starting at 3 am.

He said all of them, including 34 women, were arrested for not possessing a valid identification documents.

Abdul Rashid said the illegal immigrants were taken to the Community Hall in Kunak before being submitted to the Immigration Department.
