K-pop stars molesting claim of Malay girls on stage during concert

KUALA LUMPUR - A mini-concert featuring a South Korean pop band in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (Jan 10) has hit controversy after a three-minute video of the artistes hugging and embracing three tudung-clad Malay fans on stage went viral online.

Angry netizens took to Facebook in sharing and commenting on the video clip of the concert, featuring K-pop band B1A4 that was held at KL Live event.

K-pop, as the particular musical genre is called, is highly popular with Malaysians including Malay youths.

The 3.21 minute-long video, uploaded on the Sukan Star TV Facebook page and suggestively titled “Perempuan melayu dicabul atas pentas oleh mat kpop semalam” (Malay girls molested on stage by K-Pop artists last night) has since been shared over 19,000 times and attracted over 13,000 comments from viewers.

In the video, three K-pop stars from the group were seen interacting with three Malay fans on stage, with one of the artists hugging a fan from the back. Despite the clip’s title, however, the fan was smiling and laughing when she later hugged the artist back after turning to face him.

Another portion from the same video showed another band member kissing a tudung-clad fan’s forehead, and eventually hugging her while being cheered on by the audience as well as the emcee from the event.

Although seemingly nervous and hesitant at times, the three female fans on stage appeared willing to hug and greet the K-pop stars.

Despite the innocent appearance, however, Facebook users were critical of the behaviour.

“Allah… it looks this is the end of (us) followers… such ignorance. May Allah protect us from the evils of this world,” said one Facebook user named Mohd Akmal Vahidi.
