KOTA KINABALU - The Sabah Customs Department director Datuk Dr Janathan Kandok has denied that the agency would be holding an auction event for iPhones on Jan 19, from 8am, at the Kota Kinabalu port.
Janatahn said the information, which was spread using social media alleged that the agency would be auctioning the phones that were seized by customs officials due to tax evasion, and they would be sold at RM20 per unit.
“The public is advised not to believe information made viral through social media that alleges that the Customs Department will be holding an auction for iPhones,” he said in a statement here today.
Janathan stressed that the Sabah Customs had never appointed any inidividual to manage the exhibition or items seized by the agency, what more to be auctioned off to the public. -Bernama
