KOTA KINABALU - Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Yong Teck Lee compared that the party dissolution of 149 branches to the planting of padi - reverse is actually progress.
Yong said that the Supreme Council decision on January 21 to close down 149 mostly inactive branches is to "re-allocate resources, manpower, time and energy" to constituencies where SAPP has better chances of contesting and winning in the next general elections.
Yong reasoned that, since SAPP is forming a pact with two other Sabah local parties and other NGOs, it follows that SAPP will not contest as many seats as in the last general elections because some constituencies will be contested by our partners in the Sabah parties coalition.
"149 branches represent 35% of our previous total branches (416 branches) all over Sabah. Some constituency liaison committees, like in Petagas and Kemabong will be closed. The active members in the dissolved branches will be transferred to nearby branches," said Yong.
"By re-allocating our limited resources to our winnable areas, we are already strategising to win in our prime areas. This is like the planting of padi, as we plant and sow padi, we step backwards and not move forward. In other words, as we step backwards, actually we are progressing because we are investing our resources for the future", said Yong to 150 leaders and members at the party 21st anniversary dinner which was held in a moderate scale. Yong further predicted that the next elections will see a "one to one fight" between Sabah local parties and Malaya parties.
