Penang police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Abdul Rahim Hanafi said he had ordered the transfer for the duo from the police station situated in mainland Penang to be carried out within 24 hours.
"The disciplinary board is investigating the matter. The two personnel will be transferred there while we await the next course of action.
"I view this matter seriously and I ensure that serious action will be taken," he said in a statement Wednesday.
A photo of the male and female police officers sleeping at the reception counter went viral on social media after it was uploaded on Facebook on Tuesday.
The duo, believed to be police constables, was seen taking a nap at the desk, with a wall clock displaying the time as 6.55am.
