Low Yat incident lawyer has bad intention: IGP

Inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar said lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, who is representing the accused in the Saturday's Low Yat incident, had a 'bad intention' in claiming the top cop lied over events leading up to the event.

Dismissing the statement, Khalid said those who were caught red-handed would do anything to portray they are innocent.

"People who are arrested will say anything to get off the hook. If we want to, we can even believe someone who was tested positive on drugs after a urine test.

"This lawyer has other intentions. Bad intentions," the IGP told a press conference in Gombak today.

Yesterday, Khairul Azam accused the IGP of lying when the latter said the friend of an alleged mobile phone thief spread the rumours that sparked the riots.

The lawyer represented 22-year-old Shahrul Anwar Abdul Aziz who was charged with theft at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court.

Khairul Azam said the alleged accomplice never contacted anyone, including blogger Papagomo, regarding the rumours that Shahrul Anwar was cheated, nor had he posted anything about it - Malaysiakini
