PETALING JAYA - Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim yesterday hit out at certain quarters which tried to pin the nation's troubles on him and his father, Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar.
"Lately I received word that there are some quarters who are instructed to 'attack' my father and myself due to our vocal stand on various issues," Tunku Ismail said on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page.
"The question is, are we vocal for the benefit of the state and nation, or do we harbour malicious intent towards the country?
We are only concerned about the prosperity of the people, as well as wanting the nation's leaders to carry out their duties with integrity and transparency, for the sake of the rakyat," he said.
He added that he was saddened to see that some people, who only think about position, power and personal interests, saw him and the Sultan as challenging the government.
"If advice and opinions from my father as the Sultan, and myself as the Crown Prince, are to be restricted and disputed, what is the rakyat to hope for?" he asked.
"It is better that we find solutions to the nation's woes, as arguing amongst each other will get us nowhere. I would also like to take this opportunity to stress to certain quarters, not to create issues about my father and I, just to divert attention of the rakyat from more pressing issues.
"Do not use us as scapegoats while the current situation deteriorates. Rather than 'attacking' each other, the time and effort would be better spent to solve the problems plaguing our country," he said.
