A political activist and freelance writer in Sabah today lodged a police report asking the authorities to investigate an allegation that former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad had been involved in issuing false identity cards in the state.
Kanul Gindol said the investigation had to be thorough because up to now the investigation depended only on the Royal Commission of Inquiry.
"During the RCI, he (Mahathir) only said 'I do not know ... I was not involved," he told reporters at the Kota Kinabalu District Police headquarters.
Kanul said Mahathir had been very active of late and his cumulative actions showed that he had a motive.
He said the time had come for the authorities to undertake an investigation against the former prime minister.
