Ahmad Maslan: RM2.6b from Saudi prince Al-Waleed Talal

The Deputy Minister, who is also Umno Information Chief, did not disclose how Najib became one of those to whom Al-Waleed purportedly decided to give away his money.

KOTA KINABALU: Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Ahmad Maslan told a seminar and dialogue session with women entrepreneurs in the Sabah capital on Saturday that Saudi Arabian businessman, Prince Al-Waleed Talal, gave the RM2.6 billion deposited in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s personal accounts at AmBank Islamic private banking services before the last General Election in 2013.

The Deputy Minister, who is also Umno Information Chief, did not disclose how Najib became one of those to whom Al-Waleed purportedly decided to give away his money.

“Al-Waleed is worth RM120 billion,” claimed Ahmad. “So, after giving Najib RM2.6 billion, he still has nearly RM118 billion.”

“He wants to give away all his money.”

Unlike others who organised charity dinners and collected donations, or gave lectures, Najib did not do any of these things, conceded Ahmad. “The RM2.6 billion did not come with any conditions. So, it was not wrong to accept it.”

Ahmad (right) agreed that the sum donated was huge but thinks that it would not be surprising for a businessman like Al-Waleed. “He made tonnes of money and wants to give it all away.”

Sabah Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Jainab Ahmad Ayid was also present during the seminar and dialogue.

Among local papers, the Daily Express appears to be the only newspaper which carried the report on Ahmad’s claim. FMT was alerted on the seminar earlier by a blogger with close links to the Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman.
