Fresh out of police lock-up, Malay NGO leader Jamal Md Yunos now says he has his sights on Kajang for the next “large scale” rally.
He said this is because PKR president and Kajang assemblyperson Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has not fulfilled her election pledges two years after elected, the New Straits Times reported.
“I have on three occasions met with Kajang, comprising of Malay, Chinese and Indians, who claimed they had previously supported Wan Azizah but have since felt they were cheated, and were disappointed with her,” he was quoted as saying.
The woes include flooding, traffic congestion and poor waste collection, he said.
Details of the rally will be disclosed at a press conference on Oct 11, he said.
The Sungai Besar Umno chief was detained overnight after he cautioned that unhappy protestors may riot at Petaling Street last Saturday, if no action is taken against traders who sell counterfeit goods there.
“I take it as an inspiration and will fuel my fight to defend the federal constitution and the nation,” he reportedly told NST.
He earlier said he would take legal action against news portals for misconstruing his statement over the possible riot, leading to his arrest.
No remand was sought and the rally at Petaling Street was cancelled.
Jamal, who claims to only be the go-between for the government and protestors, was also spokesperson for Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu on Sept 16.
The rally, also referred to as the red shirt rally, was called to “defend Malay dignity” after the Bersih 4 rally to call for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s resignation.
Several police personnel and protestors were hurt in a standoff at the Petaling Street entrance, when protestors tried to storm the traditional Chinese trading area.
