SAPP's autonomy struggle proven correct

KOTA KINABALU - Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Yong Teck Lee said his party's struggle for autonomy has been proven correct even by their political opponents.

"Our struggle for autonomy is and has always been correct. Our political opponents criticised 'Sabah autonomy' as not possible, not practical, it all depends on Kuala Lumpur (KL) and so on. But now even Malayan parties have accepted Sabah's autonomy.

"In today's newspapers we read that law experts, professors and political veterans have agreed that autonomy is the way forward to save Malaysia. Now more people are waking to the window of opportunity that SAPP has been talking about since 2008," he said.

He said this in his speech during the SAPP Kota Kinabalu/Penampang Zone annual general meeting held at the Hakka Hall in Tanjung Lipat, Sunday.

Yong said in the last general election, certain Malayan parties had accused SAPP of rejoining Barisan Nasional (BN).

"Now we see that those Malayan party YBs and leaders are the ones who have defected to BN. We know also about DAP leaders working with Umno at the Batu Sapi by-election to defeat SAPP, a local party. But the truth was not believed, the truth never changed. Now we have seen the DAP YB jump to BN.

He said the Democratic Action Party (DAP) also lied about Party Islam Malaysia (PAS) not implementing the hudud law.

"PAS never said they will not. Only DAP said so. Also before the elections, DAP said only Pakatan can topple BN. After the elections, DAP buried Pakatan. Now the truth is out. Luckily SAPP did not join Pakatan. If we had joined Pakatan, we would have also been buried.

Yong said he felt that Sabahans should refrain from continuing to be puppets of Malayan parties.

"The puppets of Malayan parties in Sabah have no ideas of their own. They only repeat what their KL bosses say. When KL says yellow, the puppets here turn yellow. When KL says red, the puppets also go red. When KL says Save Sabah, the puppets also say Save Sabah. But save Sabah from who?

"Malaysia is near bankrupt not because of spending in Sabah or Sarawak but because of over spending in Malaya mega projects. To pay the RM680 billion debts, which do not include the RM42 billion 1MDB loans, I ask you who will pay the most? Sabah and Sarawak of course," he said, adding that only full autonomy will really protect Sabah from Malaya.

Yong said Barisan Nasional had spent a lot of money in the elections.

"Now we know where the money came from. RM2.6 billion is a lot of money. Now the truth has come out, Next time BN supporters will be demanding thousands of ringgit to vote.

On the GST,Yong said BN had lied about no price increases from the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax( GST).

"After the elections, prices went up. GST has hit the people hard. The only thing that came down is the value of the ringgit, he said, adding that the ordinary people were suffering now.

"Lastly, I urge Sabahans not to just blindly follow what Malaya is doing. Sabah like Sarawak has our own good points. We must not allow the import of racism and religious extremism from Malaya into Sabah.

"In Malaya, life is defined by race. Now even colours divide the people, yellow is anti and red is pro. But in Sabah yellow is SAPP and red is Kung Hee Fatt Choy.

"In Malaya wearing sarongs become an issue while in Sabah all races can wear sarongs with no issue. There the red shirts call for an end to SJKC (Chinese type) schools, while in Sabah 35 per cent of SJKC students are non-Chinese. Low Yatt is Chinese and Low Yatt 2 is Melayu. In Sabah, there is no such nonsense.

"ln Malaya non-Muslims may not use Kalimah Allah while it's ok in Sabah. Society is divided along racial lines while in Sabah multi-religious diversity is our pride. In a widely reported case in Kundasang, the Muslim family of our Vice President Japiril celebrates the ordination of a nephew as a Catholic Priest.Such reports warms our hearts and gives us hope.

"The examples go on and on so please do not blindly follow Malaya.

"Malaya cannot save Sabah. I'm not sure whether Malaya can save itself. Instead Sabah and Sarawak can save Malaysia. But first we must save Sabah from Malaya. To save Sabah, Sabah must have full autonomy. That is what SAPP is fighting for."
