Umno Youth is not stopping its members from taking part in the red shirt rally to be held on Sept 16.
"I defer to the comments of the prime minister. Let that represent the position of the party," Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said today.
The Youth and Sports Minister was asked for his view on the matter at an event in Parliament.
Khairy had said on Saturday that he would put forward his views on the matter at the Umno supreme council meeting.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak at a press conference after the supreme council meeting yesterday said Umno members were free to join the Sept 16 red shirt rally.
However, Najib said there are existing laws that would be enforced by the police on regard to the rally, which is to counter Bersih 4.
"No, (I won't stop Umno members from joining the rally).
"It is a free country, as long as they observe the law. No one is above the law, including Umno members. They are not above the law," he had said.
The rally, reportedly planned to be held at the Bukit Bintang and Petaling Street areas, is meant to counter the Bersih 4 rally held on Aug 29 and 30.
It is backed by 500 Malay NGOs to show Malay unity and defend Malay dignity, Gabungan NGO-NGO Melayu chairperson Jamal Md Yunos had said.
The group expects 300,000 people to turn up for the rally.
