Almost 4,000 kids aged 6-18 missing since 2014

Deputy Home Minister Masir Kujat has revealed that a total of 3,937 children aged between 6 to 18 years have been reported missing from 2014 until January this year.

According to him, Johor recorded the highest number with 681 cases, followed by Selangor (538) and Kedah (474) during the same period.

“Based on police statistics, a total of 2,015 children were reported missing in 2014. 1,782 cases were reported in 2015 and 140 cases were reported as of January this year.

“Based on gender, a total of 474 boys were reported missing in 2014, 457 in 2015 and 46 until January this year.

“Meanwhile, 1,536 girls went missing in 2014; 1,310 went missing last year and 94 went missing as of January this year.


“Based on race, 2,691 Malay children were reported missing while 241 involved Chinese children, 409 Indian children and 596 were from other races,” he said.

Masir said this in the Dewan Rakyat today in response to a question by Ahmad Lai Bujai (BN-Sibuti) who asked the government to state the number of missing children cases in the country as well as the state that recorded the highest number.

The deputy minister assured the Dewan Rakyat that the police have made these cases their priority as it could be linked to the crime of human trafficking.
