KOTA KINABALU - United Sabah Alliance (USA) has extended an invitation to former Umno vice president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal to work together in the 14th general election.
Its chairman Datuk Mohd Noor Mansor said the parties under USA, namely SAPP, Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) and Sabah STAR believed that Shafie could boost support for the opposition in Sabah.
In a statement released after a meeting yesterday, Mohd Noor said, "USA unanimously welcome the statement by Datuk Seri Shafie that he would be joining and leading a Sabah-based party that would cooperate with a coalition of Sabah-based parties.
"We in USA would like to extend our sincere invitation to Datuk Seri Shafie to cooperate with USA. We believe with his presence in the local Sabah-based opposition coalition, the common struggles of Malaysians in Sabah would be brought to a higher level in the political spectrum," he said.
Mohd Noor who is also SAPP advisor claimed that Sabah had been short-changed in many aspects as far as the Malaysian Agreement 1963 is concerned.
The sovereignty of Sabah as an independent state within Malaysia has grossly been infringed by the BN government, he opined adding that Sabah and its leaders have been subjected to undemocratic decisions by the present federal government.
"Besides that, we see the nation - us as fellow Malaysians - being humiliated at the international level due to malpractices being condoned at the highest level of our government. All avenues for us to inform the people of why we must change this BN-government have been suppressed.
"We trust that with Datuk Seri Shafie's influence and experience, the people will be made to better understand the perilous predicament that this country is heading into, and the need for a new government to be put in place which only we, the people can decide," he said.
