Red Shirts movement leader vows to continue 'attacking' Bersih 2.0's nationwide convoy promoting the upcoming Bersih 5 rally.
SHAH ALAM: Jamal Yunos today said he would not apologise to Maria Chin Abdullah for linking Bersih 2.0 to international militant group, Islamic State (IS).
Speaking to reporters from the men’s room in the Umno building in Shah Alam, Jamal then proceeded to tear up a letter of demand (LoD) sent by Chin’s lawyers and flushed it down the toilet.
Stressing that he stood by his sources’ claims, the Red Shirts movement leader also promised that the movement would keep “attacking” the electoral reform group.
“Maybe even more aggressive than last week. Wherever they go, we will follow.
“If they want to be in 2,000 places we will be there, including Sabah and Sarawak,” he said, alluding to the gathering it organised to counter the Bersih 2.0 convoy, which was launched nationwide last weekend.
In Teluk Intan last week, a scuffle between Bersih 2.0 supporters and the Red Shirts erupted following a stand-off between the two groups after Jamal snatched a banner from the Bersih 2.0 activists.
Yesterday, Chin demanded an apology from Jamal over his claim that Bersih 2.0 had been infiltrated by IS.
In the LoD sent to Jamal through a legal firm, Chin also wanted an undertaking that he would not publish any more defamatory statements.
The LoD also called on Jamal to pay damages for the injury done to Chin’s good name and reputation.
She said that the statements were completely false, malicious and defamatory, and calculated to injure her reputation.
The LoD also stated that Jamal’s statement was a further attempt to mislead the public on a matter of national interest.
On Sept 28, Jamal, who is also an Umno Sungai Besar division leader, claimed he received the information from “reliable” sources.
He also claimed that Bersih 2.0 had planned to “take over” several strategic locations (during the Bersih 5 rally on Nov 19), such as airports, like what happened during protests in Thailand.
This evening, Jamal said he believed that these IS threats will materialise on Nov 19 if it is not tackled by the authorities.
Meanwhile when contacted ,Chin said: “We will see him in court. Period
