TAWAU - A board of inquiry has been formed to investigate the Nuri helicopter crash at SMK Balung here, said RMAF Chief General Tan Sri Roslan Saad.
Roslan said a special team will also look into certain aspects to determine how the helicopter ended up crashing into the school building and open hall that was under construction.
“We expect to bring the fuselage and other components of the aircraft out of the school within the next few days,” said Roslan, who arrived to inspect the crash site.
“We will aftrewards evaluate and analyse the main cause of the emergency landing and take action from there,” he added.
Roslan said the helicopter was returning from Semporna after a routine flight training.
“The aircraft left here at 7.35am and brought along a crew for rescue training. The emergency happened just as it was about to reach the airport here between 9am and 9.05am,” he said.
Except for the pilot who is still warded, all 12 other soldiers on board have been discharged from the district hospital.
“I am just glad the soldiers, as well as the students and teachers are safe,” he said.
