Former national sprinter Watson Nyambek has lodged a police report against a TV production company and is considering legal action over a programme which apparently belittled his late father.
This is despite Primeworks Studios chief executive officer Ahmad Izham Omar issuing an apology on behalf of TV3 and TV9 yesterday.
“I am still angry. Not only did they belittle myself and my family but also the people of Sarawak,” Watson said in a report by The Borneo Post.
“This is not something that should be taken lightly. They must be held responsible for such folly.
“I am now looking into the next course of action,” he was quoted as saying.
According to The Borneo Post, Watson lodged the report at the Miri central police station this morning at about 10am.
He was accompanied by representatives from nine NGOs and political bodies, including the Sarawak Dayak Association, Gagasan Anak Dayak Sarawak and Lambir branch Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, the report said.
He told members of the media there that he was still angry at how the programme host and a presenter on the show had likened his father to an animal, imitating the bleating of a goat when pronouncing his name Nyambek.
In the police report, Watson added that the producer had not obtained his permission to air the programme, “Sukan Tak Sentral”, The Borneo Post said.
“It has really brought shame to our family,” he was quoted as saying.
