Police successfully end hostage drama in KK (VIDEO)
KOTA KINABALU - A 24-year-old woman was dragged barefoot and at knifepoint for two kilometres here, stopping traffic at a busy suburban area before she was rescued by police.
The public watched for about two hours as the victim was pushed, pulled and made to kneel by her abductor, before police ended the standoff at 9.40pm.
The woman collapsed after the incident, but was believed to be unharmed and was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The incident began around 7.30 pm, when the man, a 27-year-old Filipino, was interrupted during a burglary at Taman Istimewa. He took a knife as he fled and grabbed the woman he encountered.
Police were called and sealed off the area as he dragged the woman along the road and ended up near an intersection near Damai Plaza.
Kota Kinabalu district police chief Superintendent George Abdul Rahman engaged with the suspect in an attempt to secure the woman’s release, before armed officers were able to pounce and disarm him.
“We are still investigation the matter and trying to get full details of the incident and on the suspect for under kidnapping and threatening to murder,” he said.
