GEORGE TOWN - It was her first day at work as a part-time waitress and the last thing the accounting diploma student wanted to do was to “offend” a customer.
The 21-year-old, who only wanted to be known as Tan, agreed to accompany a customer, whom she identified as a DAP assemblyman’s aide, to his parked car when he was leaving the outlet.
It was a decision she would later regret.
She claimed that as they walked along a dark passageway to the car, the man suddenly pushed her against the wall.
“He kissed me and tried to put his tongue into my mouth. I tried to push him away but he was so big.
“He shoved his left hand into my shorts and touched my private parts. I got scared, squatted down and cried,” she said of the July 6 incident yesterday.
Tan was working at an entertainment outlet in Lebuh Pantai while waiting for her final year exam results. She claimed the man then pulled out his private parts and asked her for oral sex and when she refused, he asked her to use her hands instead.
“Then he pulled me up and continued kissing me even as I tried to push him away,” she said, adding that the man then masturbated and ejaculated on her.
Tan was accompanied by her father and boyfriend to the press conference at the Parti Cinta Malaysia office in Air Itam yesterday.
Also present was PCM vice-president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan.
Tan, who wore a white, long-sleeved shirt buttoned to her neck, a black cap with her face concealed behind a mask that left only her eyes visible, gripped her hands tightly as she spoke, sometimes in a choked voice.
She also showed reporters the shorts she claimed she wore that night, which had a white stain on it.
She said she lodged a police report on the incident after midnight on July 7 and a second report on July 11, with more details, including security camera footage from that passageway where she was allegedly assaulted.
She said she came forward to tell her story so that other women would not have to suffer the same experience.
The 50-year-old aide, who is also a former Penang Municipal Council councillor, was arrested on Thursday and has been remanded for two days.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar in a text statement said the police have viewed the security camera recordings which showed the suspect walking with Tan along the passageway, but the exact spot where the crime allegedly happened was not covered by the camera.
The suspect’s lawyer, Gnasegaran Egamparam, said his client had been cooperating with the police.
“We went to the district police headquarters on Thursday at the request of the investigators. All my client wants is a fair investigation,” he said.
