KOTA KINABALU - A Sabah opposition leader has demanded the state government explain how a PKR member who is contesting in the party elections could carry two MyKads.
Johnny Mositun, the PBS secretary-general who was the Sabah deputy speaker, said the arrest of the man, who is running for the Kimanis PKR chairman’s post, was shocking.
He also questioned if the National Registration Department (NRD) was aware that the man has two MyKads.
“Both NRD and the Chief Minister’s Office are obliged to give a proper explanation to the people and should not brush it off as a minor thing,” he said when speaking to PBS members in Papar near here today.
Yesterday, a source in Sabah PKR told FMT that a complaint was lodged with the PKR election committee, accompanied with a letter from the NRD. A report was also filed with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Meanwhile, Mositun said six months after taking over the state, the Warisan-led government had not taken any concrete action to address the issue of foreigners being given citizenship.
“All that is forthcoming from the state government is plenty of hot air, denials, promises and accusations hurled at the previous government. What good does that do for Sabah?”
Mositun also hit out at Warisan Supreme Council member Tommy Martin who had attacked PBS president Joseph Pairin Kitingan for not revealing the recommendations of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into illegal immigrants.
“Martin should know that Pairin only chaired a working committee, not the main national level committee which was headed by the then deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“The working committee chaired by Pairin was not authorised to publicise its recommendations. That authority lies with the main national level committee. The report is an official, confidential document with the federal government. It is for them to reveal its contents if it so wishes,” he said.
