The Election Commission (EC) has set May 11 for the Sandakan by-election with nomination day on April 27 and early voting on May 7.
EC chairman Azhar Harun said the by-election is expected to cost RM3.1 million and will involve 39,856 ordinary voters, 270 early voters and five overseas voters.
At a press conference here today, he said 770 polling staff will be tasked with monitoring the by-election, which will have 21 voting centres with 92 polling streams.
The Sandakan by-election was triggered by the death of incumbent MP Stephen Wong.
Wong, who was also Sabah health and people’s well-being minister, died on March 28.
He won the parliamentary seat in the 2013 general election and retained it with a majority of more than 10,000 in the May 9 polls last year.
