Minister concerned should apologize for water dilemma
KOTA KINABALU - Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), in a statement said the two departments should resolve to reconnect the water supply to the affected quarters as soon as possible.
Datuk Richard Yong We Kong, its deputy president said that any delay in the water supply to the quarter is injustice to the teachers and staff of Education Department.
“There is no reason why the two departments, the Education Department and the Water Department which are under the same government cannot settle the issue without jeopardizing the livelihood of the families living in the Sabah Education Institution Quarters (KIPS).
“The more than 14 days water supply disruption has caused great inconvenience and burdensome to the teachers and families. There are 200 apartment units with approximately 1,000 residents affected.
“We visited the affected residents last Wednesday and understood their frustration and hardships and how it affects their mood and morale. The Water department should connect the water first and do the follow-up actions, this is not the fault of the residents after all.
He said that was highly irresponsible for the Water Department to disconnect the water supply to the fire hydrants because it puts the entire neighbourhood and teachers quarters in danger should a fire happen.
“What more now is the dry season,” he added.
“Fire fighters (BOMBA) would face the unexpected challenge of dry fire hydrants. This puts human lives and properties at high risk,” he stressed.
“For the department to have disconnected water supply to the Fire Hydrant has violated the rule of fire safety, they will have to take full responsibility if any untoward incidents should happen.
“The Sabah Minister concerned therefore should apologise for such an incident,” said Richard.
