PETALING JAYA - The man at the centre of the gay sex videos targeting Mohamed Azmin Ali has given more details about his alleged affair, despite the minister’s strong denial that the viral clips show them engaging in homosexual activities.
Haziq Aziz told theSun daily that he and Azmin had kept their relationship separate from their professional duties since becoming “intimate” in 2016, three years after Haziq started promoting Azmin among students at Universiti Malaya.
“But we never mixed politics with our relationship,” he said in the interview with the daily.
Yesterday, Haziq, an aide to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, said he decided to come out with a video confession alleging that the gay sex clips making the rounds on social media were of him and Azmin, because he feared for his safety.
“It was a risk but I would rather be in the spotlight than suffer the same fate as Altantuya Shaariibuu,” he told theSun, referring to the brutal murder of the Mongolian woman in 2006.
Azmin has condemned the allegations as slander, and lodged a report with Islamic authorities to bring “qazaf” (false accusation of illicit sex) charges against Haziq.
Yesterday, PKR’s disciplinary board said Haziq would be slapped with a show-cause letter over his claims.
In the interview, Haziq said he began helping Azmin “address some challenges” within PKR during his student days, when the PKR leader was challenged for the party’s number two post by then-Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
Haziq also rejected claims that he was paid a substantial amount to make the confession.
“Why would I want to throw away my career for short-term gains?” he asked. “I had a good job and a great boss.”
