KOTA KINABALU: A headless and limbless torso was found floating in waters off Mengalum Island, not far from the state capital on Wednesday (Aug 21).
Sabah Marine police chief Asst Comm Mohamad Pajeri Ali said a team of auxiliary policemen discovered the body, believed to belong to a man, near an oil rig at the area at about 11am Wednesday.
“We received information of the discovery and headed to the scene to find the decomposing corpse that was clad in a yellow T-shirt, ” he said in a statement Thursday (Aug 22).
He said the identity of the corpse had yet to be identified and the body has been sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for post mortem.
ACP Mohamad urged those who have missing family members to come forward and assist investigations.
City police chief Asst Comm Habibi Majinji, meanwhile, said initial investigations found no foul play in the case.
He said a probe is underway to ascertain whether the discovery had any links to recent boat capsize cases around the area, which mainly involved fishermen and locals.
