350 Tabligh members in Tawau undergo screening

TAWAU - Some of the estimated 350 members of the Muslim missionary group Tabligh from here who attended a gathering in Selangor last week that was also participated by Brunei’s first Covid-19 case turned up for screening at the Health Clinic, here, Wednesday.

This followed the issuance of a circular to those who attended the gathering at the Sri Petaling Grand Mosque. A check by Daily Express at about 6.30pm showed some of the Tabligh still queuing up for the screening with some wearing face masks.



The Tabligh gathering From Feb 27 t0 March 1 in Petaling Jaya involved an estimated 10,000 people from several countries, including 5,000 Malaysians.

All State Health Departments are conducting investigations into the matter in their respective states.

Five other Bruneians were subsequently found positive for the disease and who happened to be the first patient’s wife and two sons.

In KUALA LUMPUR, Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah called on all individuals who had attended the gathering to cooperate with the ministry to ensure the virus does not spread among the community.

“If you have any of the symptoms, you are asked to contact the nearest health district office or state Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC).

“If you do not have any of the symptoms, you are asked to practise social distancing of at least one metre from other people for 14 days from the last date of your attendance at the gathering.”
