SAPP invites public to celebrate Sabah Merdeka 49

KOTA KINABALU - Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) distributed flyers to public members at Gaya Street here to invite them to attend the State level independence day celebration which will be held at City Park here.

SAPP Information Chief Chong Pit Fah said that several thousand pamphlets have been distributed to the public at the weekly market from 9.00 am till about 12.00 noon.

"The feedback we have received has been very encouraging. Most of the visitors of the weekend markets react that they will attend the event.

"A large number of visitors also quite surprised to find that the exact date Sabah gained independence from the British was on 31 August 1963, while Malaya gained independence on 31 August 1957.

"They are also beginning to realize that the actual age of Sabah’s independence is 49 years and not 55 years, a lie by Kuala Lumpur over the years.

"The actual age of Malaysia is also 49 years since the country was created on 16 September 1963 through a combination of Sabah, Sarawak, Malaya and Singapore," he said.

“Malaysia never existed 55 years ago as being celebrated by Barisan Nasional Government so we do not have to celebrate the 55 years of independence.

“The 55 years was actually the anniversary of Malaya’s independence so there is no point for Malaysians in Sabah and Sarawak to celebrate the occasion,” he said.

Also present to distribute the leaflets, among others, are SAPP Deputy President cum Organising Chairman of the State level independence day celebration  Amde Sidik, Deputy President cum Likas Assemblyman Datuk Liew Teck Chan, Luyang Assemblywoman Melanie Chia and organising committee members.

He said Kuala Lumpur act of celebrating independence day over the years is actually to brain wash Malaysians in Sabah and Sarawak to believe that the country achieved independence on 31 August 1957.
He said the act should be stopped because the facts of history can not be changed.

Pit Fah said the purpose of the event was to enlighten people about the actual age of Sabah and Malaysia as well as urging the government not to distort the facts of history.

He said various events are to be organized to enliven the day which will be held at City Park on August 31 at about 2.00 pm.
