SAS investor: State Govt failed to increase SAS value

Being one of the 55,000 investors of Saham Amanah Sabah, Mr Chin Chow Chew of Tawau questioned the BN state government why is it that 15 years after the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997, while most of the other trust funds in Peninsular had risen,  the price of Saham Amanah Sabah still remain unchanged. This is really disheartening for the Sabah investors.

Chin said, “after hearing some misleading accusations from certain people, I, at first thought that Datuk Yong Teck Lee was in charge of the management of SAS and had caused the SAS to lose in value, but after surfing the official website of the SAS I found out that Datuk Yong Teck Lee did not hold any position in SAS management, now I wonder who were the real culprits caused the fall of SAS price?

Chin said, even though the CEO of SAS Datuk Hassan Omar had clarified that Datuk Yong Teck Lee never held any position in the Board of  Management of SAS still some people persistently trying to blame him on the fall of SAS value.

Chin recalled that back in 1994 when the Saham was launched, the chairman of the SAS Datuk Salleh Tun Said Keruak, while launching the SAS at RM1 per share, assured that the price of the SAS will never fall below the launching price.

Chin was so confident with the assurance of the SAS Chairman that he invested heavily in the Saham. He is now holding 97,500 units of SAS which he bought separately in November 1994, March and July of 1996.

Chin said the SAS price had been increasing until the strike of financial crisis in 1997 when it fell to RM0.20 per unit. After 15 years it stays at RM0.20 to RM 0.30 while the other trust units that suffered the financial crisis had mostly risen back to its original value.

The State government injected a grant of RM 200 million into the SAS but yet to see any impact and this is making investors like Chin and the rest wonder where had the RM200 million gone?

Chin said he considers himself one of the major investors and urge the state government to respond to the call of the people to investigate and reveal the truth as to the real cause on the fall of Saham price as the investors wants to know the story behind it and why the price has not improved ever since.

Chin said he is extremely disappointed with the state government for refusing to give the investors a clear picture on the fall of SAS price. He believes that once SAPP formed government, a “White Paper” will be published, the SAS management to be restructured and the value of SAS will be recovered and improved.

Chin told his friends who are also SAS investors for those who want to give up on SAS can sell their shares to him but they refused because seeing Chin so confident on SAPP forming the new State Government.

  2. In 1996, the then Sabah Chief Minister Yong Teck Lee persuaded 55,000 Sabahans to invest in SAS – Saham Amanah Sabah – convincing them that it was a great buy which would multiply its value twice or thrice its original price of one ringgit! Today, SAS has reached the point of no return, dropped from RM1 to below 20 sen, incurring over RM400 million losses! The State Government is not giving up on the Saham Amanah Sabah (SAS) but that any artificial interference on the stocks will not do it good.Whatever you do cannot bring the share price up until the global economy has become better. Iit is going to be difficult unless the world economy recovers.Unless of course we jack it up and do something out of the economic norms . However would not be good.

The question now is to ensure that the management comprised professionals and to make sure there is no unnecessary interference. It was very unfortunate that the counters invested turned out to be sour subsequently because of being highly speculative. The market was robust but now suddenly boom it plunges. So now we must ensure that the fund has to be fundamentally sound and it cannot be speculative. The government should also ensure no similar pain and suffering would be inflicted onto any potential investors of unit trust if any similar scheme should be launched by the State Government in the future.

Kamurang cybertrooper BN dibayar untuk sebar fitnah yg sama aja ...memang betul SAS jatuh semasa YTL jadi KM sebab ekonomi krisis berlaku pada 1997, pada masa itu saham seluruh dunia jatuh termasuk SAS ....tapi ,bila ekonomi dunia pulih semula selepas beberapa tahun, semua saham dunia dah naik kembali,..tetapi sayang betul, YTL cuma jadi KM dari 1996 sehingga 1998, jadi dia tidak ada kuasa lagi .....SAS dibawah kerajaan BN sejak ianya jatuh pada 1997 tidak pernah naik2 lagi, kenapa ? ....sedangkan saham lain di seluruh dunia dah naik ? ....kenapa ?

This has to be investigated too...these people are a bunch of idiots managing our hard earned money only to find ourselves poorer and frustrated with the way they handle our investment. We want transparency, justice and fairness with immediate action!!!
