SAPP: The Incompetence of SESB

SAPP Youth Exco Clement Lee has put the entire blame of inconsistence supply of electricity squarely as the failure of Sabah Electricity Sendirian Berhad, known by Sabahans as SESB, even though millions Ringgit worth of grant are allocated by the UMNO led-BN government annually.

The inconsistency and the frequency of electricity black-outs in Sabah have contributed and caused lot of losses and damages to all the users of electrical appliances especially computer peripherals like UPS, mother-board, laptop battery and battery charger that add and increase the already heavy the burden and cost into the local company expenditure and household accounts. Furthermore, it would cause so much inconvenience to the users by wasting their time to make a claim to go through all the red-tape procedures if there is any.

Did you know that the UPS-es, laptop batteries and battery chargers especially the compatible ones, are the top selling and in demand items in Sabah and we top the charts too in the whole of Malaysia? This was mainly contributed by the inconsistence of power supply and power blackout provided by SESB. This chronic and long due problem seldom or rarely happen in Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, but evident and prominent only in Sabah. Miserable, depressing and disgusting.

After 49 years of Sabah being Merdeka, the people of Sabah is still facing the most basic utility problems in such pathetic situation to a point when electricity black-out was treated as a norm and Sabahans are already growing numb over the issue.

The announcement of Sabah Corridor Development plan by UMNO led-BN government 4 years ago was merely an absurd and ridiculous out take, utterly an insult to Sabahans' intelligence, when in reality it couldn’t even solve the most rudimentary problem over such long number of years.

We have been given ample and enough of time for UMNO led-BN government to prove themselves worthy of our votes for many years but they have failed us miserably, year in year out, time and time again.

Since the Federal government has failed to solve the electricity problems for 30 years after taking over from Sabah when compares with Sarawak SESCO which is profitable and successful, under SAPP Economic Plan Manifesto for Sabah, SAPP Government intends to reverting SESB back to a state-owned entity, geared towards adequate generation and efficient distribution of electricity which is crucial to spur Sabah's economic growth. If SESCO owned by the Sarawak State Government is viable and successful, there is no valid reason that Sabah's own SESB cannot be similarly viable and successful. Furthermore, SESCO had even proposed to sell their excess electricity to SESB.

In this coming election, this is the time we, the people of Sabah stand united in supporting our local Sabah opposition party SAPP to retake the Sabahan administration from an unfit party imported from peninsular Malaysia, and once and for all reinstate Sabah's Autonomy according to and in compliance with the original Malaysia Agreement signed in 1963.

There is still HOPE yet for Sabah, if Sabah is to be governed by a local Sabahan party SAPP. When the rights to manage and regulate, the authority and opportunity to decide rest on ourselves, we would be able to decide our collective fate. The least we could say then would be, SESB need not approval nor reference from TNB.

  1. SESB personel are just incompetent, no point in all the rhetoric about billion investment in Sabah. No one will consider this state until we get this fixed and our talented youngsters will keep on migrating, replaced by incompetent, uneducated foreigners. We pay heavily on electrical items and our rechargeable batteries can only last less than it cycles.

  5. Villagers in Sabah who cannot afford to pay for the internal electric wiring in their respective homes can actually apply for Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd's (SESB) assistance under the Assisted Rural Wiring Scheme (ARWS).

  6. According to the Regional and Rural Development Ministry, which implements the rural electric supply (BELB) programme, the ARWS provides financing for wiring amounting to RM510 per house in Sabah and those who join in the scheme can make repayment by instalment for a period of 36 months.

  7. Nevertheless, in the effort to ensure all walks of the community enjoy electricity supply, the Ministry does provide financing for the internal wiring installation cost and the power connection (collateral deposit) payment for the houses of hardcore poor families.

  8. The BELB scope of implementation only involves building electricity delivery line, distribution line and service line to the houses of individuals and that the home owners need to pay for the cost of internal wiring and the collateral deposit (power supply connection deposit payment) to SESB.

  10. The Ministry has set a target under NKRA to equip 37,897 homes in the State with electricity supply before end of this year.

  11. The Ministry has been allocated by the Government a total of RM1,392 million throughout the three year period, from 2010 to 2012, to achieve this target. Of this, the highest number of houses was this year involving 15,455 houses under 320 projects and involving RM382.50 million in allocation.

    1. Every year we heard with all the empty promises from Barisan Najis with millions allocation but the electricity supply in KK still the same as yesteryear and need no to mention about the rural area.

SESB and Musang bin tidak aman must be sacked immediately.

  12. Last year, the Ministry's target was 8,248 homes under 100 projects and involving RM693.79 million in allocation, while in 2010 it was 14,194 homes under 170 projects and RM315.63 million in allocation.

  13. The Ministry said the implementation of all these BELB projects would result in electricity supply coverage in Sabah increasing to 87.9 per cent at end of this year, from 77.0 per cent in 2010.

  15. Sabah Electricty Sdn Bhd (SESB) terpaksa melaksanakan Pengurusan Beban Pengguna (DSM) terhadap pengguna-pengguna kuasa besar (LPC) sejak hari Isnin yang lalu.
