Million Dollar Bribes Disguised As ‘Donations’ – UMNO’s Ever Changing Stories!

Thanks for the RM40 million my lad. Of course, nothing compared to the huge timber concessions and barging monopolies which I have offered your family. I hope you are still making regular payments to my sons and keeping up the rental on that house in Perth that I asked you to organise? Remember these are all perfectly proper political donations and I am no longer denying we do business!

Where was Michael Chia on 14th August 2008 ?

UMNO have created so many contradictions with their various excuses that they must now produce some evidence.

The story started back on that date when it was reported that timber trader Michael Chia had been arrested with RM40million in his suitcase, on his way to Sabah from Hong Kong.

It created a news storm and a great number of denials. Chia denied he had been arrested or that the money was to do with him and Musa Aman denied he had anything to do with Michael Chia.

But now, suddenly, after four years of these denials, UMNO’s Mr Nazri has capitulated and admitted that after all the money was being sent by Chia to Musa. However not in a personal capacity but as a “perfectly proper” political ‘donation’.

Come on! Why didn’t Musa, Mr Nazri and BN/UMNO just say so in the first place?

Instead of playing President Clinton and saying as recently as April this year:

“I have had no business dealings whatsoever with an individual named Michael Chia”[Statement by Musa Aman 12/4/12]

Why didn’t Musa just say:

“Sure, I know Michael. He regularly gets timber licences from Yayasan Sabah, of which I am Chairman. Michael totally openly and appropriately wired RM40million over to my party, of which I am Chairman, back in 2008.  We really appreciated his above board donation. Feel free to look at our accounts?”[Musa Aman did NOT say this]

Changing stories

Consider all the missed opportunities Musa/UMNO have had to clarify the situation.  The arrest was first reported Way back in 2008. This was how the UMNO supporting Star Newspaper put it at the time:

  20. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman on Thursday said the measures introduced by the Federal Government under the 2013 Budget would definitely help Sabah, especially in the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC), to attract investments and narrow the socio-economic gap between Sabah and the rest of the nation.

  22. The Federal Government also has noted that generally, prices of essential goods in Sabah and Sarawak are higher compared with Peninsular Malaysia due to the high costs of delivery and distribution.

To reduce the costs and prices of goods, Musa said, the Government has introduced various initiatives, including the price uniformity programme, provision of transport subsidy as well as opening of Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M

    ReplyDelete

  39. THERE were plenty of cheers and smiles at the state legislative assembly, and perhaps, the whole of Sabah, last Friday when Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman tabled the 2013 state budget.

Described by many as a holistic and pragmatic budget free of election gimmicks, the RM4.088 billion budget was the biggest in the history of the state.

Themed "Consolidated efforts towards continuous prosperity of the people", the budget has clear and specific goals of keeping up the development momentum, as well as addressing the needs of the state.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The state government was able to produce such a huge budget because of prudent and sound management of the state's expenditure and revenue.

In fact, the state's revenue has been increasing over the last 12 years.

Under the Barisan Nasional state government, Sabah's revenue has grown from RM1.2 billion in 2001 to RM4.36 billion last year.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The state's cash reserves also increased from RM100 million in 2001 to RM3.3 billion last year.

Many may recall that, in 2001, the state government, because of its limited cash reserves, could not pay salary increments and bonuses to civil servants, unlike the Federal Government. But this has become a thing of the past.

Musa makes sure Sabah's resources and financial expenditure are managed efficiently.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. ini menunjukkan pengurusan kewangan Sabah diuruskan dengan baik.

      Delete
  42. In fact, the Auditor-General's Report acknowledged Sabah as one of the states with the best record in financial management, and Sabah was recognised with an unqualified certificate or clean bill over the last 12 years.

Sabah had also been given AAA rating by RAM Rating Services for its strong fiscal position and revenue adjustment capacity, and received the MS-ISO 9001:2008 certification from Moody International for efficient state budget management, preparation process and procedural compliance for the last four years.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Despite all the accolades, the state leadership is aware of the existence of certain quarters who incite the people through allegations and slander so that they will resent the government.

"Their malicious intents, including those spread in cyber space, are meant to bring down the leaders and the government," said Musa, when tabling the budget.

A case in point is the unfounded allegation of graft and money laundering against Musa in relation to a purported RM40 million political donation for Sabah Umno from someone in Hong Kong.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Although the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) found no proof of graft against Musa, the opposition continues to harp on the matter.

It is learnt that the original complaint against Musa was lodged by a Malaysian opposition politician to ICAC, which was obliged by law to investigate the complaint.

Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) secretary-general Datuk Henrynus Amin said the outcome of the investigations by MACC and ICAC proved that the opposition's claims were baseless and brought to light that it was the mastermind of this conspiracy.

    ReplyDelete

    1. hasil siasatan sudah menunjukkan rasuah tidak berlaku. jadi kes ini sudah selesai.

  45. It has to be noted that ICAC, as acknowledged by not just the Malaysian government but also the opposition, is a highly respected investigative body, guided by the highest standards of practices, rules and procedures.

Kota Belud member of parliament Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said he had listened countless times at Parliament when the opposition praised ICAC as being the best graft-busting agency.

"Unfortunately, when the very same ICAC vindicated Musa, the opposition shamelessly called the decision 'doubtful and highly irregular'," said the Sabah BN secretary.

    ReplyDelete
  46. To Henrynus, what was even more unfortunate was that certain non-governmental organisations had allowed themselves to become vehicles to fulfil this agenda.

Ironically, while Musa is accused by the opposition of looting and pillaging Sabah's timber areas, it was his drive to protect the timber and the forest from being plundered that made him the darling of environmental groups.
