Star fully committed to united opposition against BN?

“STAR Sabah is fully committed to the United Borneo Alliance (UBA) and a united opposition including SAPP, USNO and Pakatan Rakyat to oust the current Umno/BN federal and state governments” reiterated Edward Linggu, STAR Sabah Information Chief, in response to the recent press reports of Richard Jimmy.

STAR Sabah wish to clarify that while we respect Richard’s personal views, the press reports do not represent the official stand of STAR Sabah.  Perhaps, his reports sadly may have caused some confusion and concerns but we are confident that the people are matured enough to understand the real situation.   For the record, he is not a member of our Supreme Council.

UBA and STAR Sabah has endeavoured to build a strong united local opposition and had even extended official invitations to all local BN component parties, who had sent emissaries for discussions, to join UBA and work together to remove the Umno regime in Sabah.

As for SAPP and STAR, leaders of both parties have had many discussions to work out a joint cooperation to take on the BN in Sabah with the ultimate aim of removing the Umno/BN government.  The Umno/BN government has not only failed to defend Sabah’s rights and autonomy but also failed to fight for Sabah’s rights and interests, amongst others, Sabah’s oil ownership rights, a higher share of the oil revenue and fair distribution of Sabah’s revenue collected by the federal government.

The Umno/BN government has also marginalized natives and failed to uphold and defend native rights particularly land and NCR and the rights and privileges of the natives as enshrined under Article 153 of the Federal Constitution and Article 41 of the Sabah Constitution.

It is not surprising that under the Umno/BN regime, Sabah has descended from the 2nd richest State in 1970 (after Selangor which included Kuala Lumpur then) to now the poorest State despite the State producing some RM19 billion of oil and gas and contributing RM22.7 billion to the federal coffers in 2011.

Many Sabahans have failed to realize that they need to stand united especially in the forthcoming 13th general elections to stand a chance of re-claiming Sabah’s rights and restoration of Sabah’s riches which have been eroded and taken away since the formation of Malaysia in 1963.

At the same time, STAR is very clear that the Sabah local opposition need to work with Pakatan Rakyat to topple the Umno/BN federal government.  Hence, STAR has always advocated working and cooperating with PR both at federal and state levels.

It is sad that in trying to jostle for a better position, local opposition leaders have bad-mouthed STAR with the aim of reducing STAR’s growing support and influence.

Some opposition leaders with NGO links even twist facts like STAR will work with Umno/BN when the truth is that what was said was that if after the elections Umno/BN forms the federal government, the Sabah government (involving STAR) will have no alternative but to work with the federal government.   This is the same as the present State governments of Selangor, Penang, Kedah and Kelantan who have to work with the Umno/BN federal government although they are in the opposition.

Principally, while it is ideal for local parties to contest the local seats, STAR has always adopted a stand for PR to stand in Sabah with the common goal of toppling the Umno/BN federal and state governments.   This was reiterated in a recent letter sent by our Chairman to the PR leaders in the Peninsular.

Of utmost importance is for the Sabah opposition to be united in facing and toppling the current Umno/BN state and federal governments.

  1. LET US PAUSE AND PONDER OVER THIS COMMENT FROM SARAWAK REPORT CONTRASTING THE SITUATION OF SARAWAK BEING IN MALAYSIA AND BRUNEI OUTSIDE.

    http://www.sarawakreport.org/2012/12/taib-strikes-sarawaks-oil-at-last/

"Back in the 1980s the newly empowered Chief Minister, Taib Mahmud, negotiated a key deal with Malaysia over Sarawak’s oil.

At first, he had been willing to agree to let the Federal Government take ALL of Sarawak’s oil revenues, as long as he could hold sway over the handing out of timber and plantation licences!

Later, responding to outrage amongst his own supporters, he came back and insisted that Sarawak get a miserable 5% of the revenue from its own oil and gas.

But, at that time he clearly reckoned that the wealth he could get from a free hand over timber and land was enough for his personal needs and so was willing to barter away billions that could have transformed the lives of his people.

Look at how comfortably people live in Brunei (below) by comparison to Sarawak.

Meanwhile, West Malaysia’s wealth and reputation as one of the “Asian Tiger Economies” relies almost entirely on this successful raid on Sarawak and Sabah’s most valuable natural resource.

Taib got a big pat on the back from Mahatir in return and a free hand to grab what he liked from his people in the way of land and timber.

So, as Malaysians have got more and more comfortable siphoning away Sarawak’s oil wealth, the Dayak people have got poorer and poorer.

The two East Malaysian states, which are by far the richest in resources and which did not form part of Malaysia until 1963, now have most of its poorest people."

Well, we like to hang traitors!

What is the difference between SARAWAK and BRUNEI?

Sarawak outsizes Brunei but one big difference is that Sarawak has been swallowed by the Malayan python called Malaysia and Brunei is not in it!

Neither is Singapore. They are both happy and prospering as independent countries.

Folks the same applies to our beloved Sabah and even more damaging in that we are now the minority!

If you want to sit under the coconut tree and have coconuts dropped on your sleepy heads- then you deserve it.

But if you can see what is coming you can take steps to rectify the horrendous situation we are in!

    We are in DIRE STRAITS...!

It is time to take back our country!

    ........................................................................................................

SALUTE & THANK THE BPP & TNKU FOR THEIR ANTI-MALAYSIA UPRISING DEC 8 1962.

If the Brunei People's Party (BPP) had not opposed the British Malayan neo-colonial scheme to con Brunei into the “Malaysia” federation, Brunei would be languishing in poverty like Sabah and Sarawak after UMNO Malaya drained out their oil and other wealth over 49 years.

So you should ALL be proud of your own Brunei brothers who gave their lives and freedom (some jailed for over 25 years) and contributed to the independence of Brunei from Malayan colonial domination.

AM Azahari (1928-2002- born in Labuan) should be honoured as a national hero and a patriot instead of being portrayed so negatively. Why?

He led the independence uprising- a rebellion against British colonialism AND the Malaysia new colonial plan to consolidate British hegemony over the Borneo/Kalimantan colonies under Malayan rule. Before in August 1962, the BPP. It was done not just for himself but for all the people- Brunei Sabah (North Borneo) and Sarawak for which he had proposed a unified state of North Kalimantan to resist Malayan domination.

Although the uprising appeared poorly planned it was brought on by the speed with which Britain was moving to impose “Malaysia” on Brunei Sabah and Sarawak.

Maybe the BPP could be criticised for failing to do better ground work to unite with the independence movements in Sabah and Sarawak on ideas and actions. That is history.

The most important outcome of the Uprising is that Brunei today is free and independent and not part of Malaysia. Thanks to an uprising.

There were recent efforts by the Kuala Lumpur government to manoeuvre the current government into Malaysia. In 1990 they even tried to bribe Azahari to head a new government if he could get Brunei to become part of “Malaysia” to fulfill UMNO supremacists dream of “Melayu Raya”. The racial balance argument was just their excuse to takeover and colonise the 3 British colonies.

To his credit Azahari stood by Brunei independence and rejected the Kuala Lumpur approaches. There is a You Tube video posted of an interview with him and he talked about the uprising and the KL moves before he passed away. He remained true to Brunei and his dream of a united North Kalimantan state not for himself but for all of us in Northern Borneo.

  3. (5Oth Anniversary of anti-Malaysia Brunei Uprising)

While Brunei people today are able to enjoy independence and the benefits from their resources such as oil wealth it is a shame that they are taught to condemn the man and the Party that saved them from being the slaves of a foreign master. We should be the ones who ought to be ashamed of ourselves for holding such views.

A recent news report mentioned that the Brunei people were enjoying high quality housing built by the government while in Sarawak thousands upon thousands of people lived in shacks and extreme poverty (not to mention Sabah the poorest state of Malaysia-why?). So are the people of independent Singapore. See some comments in this report:
    http://www.sarawakreport.org/2012/12/taib-strikes-sarawaks-oil-at-last/

If AM Azahari and the BPP had been allowed to form the government in 1962, it is posited that would have been similar developments for the people. And because of the uprising, the positive impact has trickled down to the people over 50 years.

For this Brunei people if not the government should be grateful and proud that Azahari never betrayed Brunei's right to independence as have Sabah and Sarawak politicians who sold out their countries. That is why he should should be a national hero of not just Brunei but also Sabah and Sarawak!

Do think beyond the false ideas embedded in our mentality by the British!"
